Happy Hippie Granola | My Rubberbandball
https://boxingoctopus.wordpress.com/2010/05/10/happy-hippie-granola
About the boxing octopus. That is not the name I would give it. I would call it, “OMG I JUST SAW JESUS granola,” it’s that good. Or maybe, “300 calories for half a cup ain’t so bad, is it? Since I decided to take the morning to myself rather than reading, writing, or grading (or watching Friday Night Lights, boo! I decided to try out this recipe with adaptations that suit my tastes and pantry. 3 c old-fashioned rolled oats. 3/4 c shredded coconut. 1 c sliced almonds. 2 T toasted wheat germ. 2 T flax seeds.

Pizza cups | My Rubberbandball
https://boxingoctopus.wordpress.com/2010/08/31/pizza-cups
About the boxing octopus. Enter the pizza cup. I had seen a recipe for them in Everyday Food. And again a few days later on The Kitchn. I decided to follow their lead (if not their recipes, except for cook times) and give pizza cups a whack. I started with Pioneer Woman’s pizza crust. For the sauce, I took a 28-ounce can of peeled whole tomatoes, a small can of tomato paste, and dumped them into a pot with a generous shake of Ana’s Herbs. Bake at 450 for 12 minutes and let cool for a few minutes. Ser...

This stuff is addictive. You will be tempted to eat it with a spoon. Or pour it straight out of the jar into your mouth. And it’s okay if you do, because it’s super healthy and packed full of good stuff, like turmeric. Cashews, like all nuts, are packed with protein, and they’re also rich in iron and zinc. Twists: a...

Book Notes: Delicious! by Ruth Reichl | My Rubberbandball
https://boxingoctopus.wordpress.com/2014/09/08/book-notes-delicious-by-ruth-reich
About the boxing octopus. Earlier this year, I swore to read a book a week over the course of 2014. A plan that failed spectacularly because, duh, I’m a slow reader who picks impossibly long books that couldn’t be finished inside of a week absent any semblance of a life or need for sleep. That said, I have read a LOT of books over the summer, including This Is Where I Leave You. LOVE — can’t wait for the movie! LOVE), The Leftovers. ALSO LOVE), the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy. Let’s start wi...

One Week In (reflections on Whole 30 and stuff) | My Rubberbandball

About the boxing octopus. One Week In (reflections on Whole 30 and stuff). I don’t believe in detoxing from sugar. While I think that it’s possible to consume too much of it with deleterious effects on your body, I think that “detoxing” suggests dependency and addiction. There’s also a mystical component to it that classifies food in the same category as a toxin, and I just don’t subscribe to that line of thinking. I do believe in balance and mindfulness. In the afternoons. Ice cream bars. So, in short, ...

I haven’t posted in years, and I barely have time to try new recipes these days. This was a fun side project for a long time–I transitioned from youthful veganism to a more thoughtful and pragmatic omnivorism, enjoyed being part of the Austin Food Blogger Association.
