As we mentioned in out last post we have been working on a site to help Java Developers use Open Source Projects. The site is in an early stage but we want to work on the site openly and improve it with your feedback. Yes, it’s a big goal, but we feel like there is so much that can be done to make out lives as coders easier. We hope this is a good first step in the right direction. Read More ››. We made a mistake.

Pains of Open Source
http://blog.architexa.com/2012/09/pains-of-open-source
Working with Large Codebases. Pains of Open Source. Sep 12, 2012. I am a big fan of open source. I use it every day, and recommend it often. But I do want to have a balanced perspective on it. I recently posted about the pleasures of using open source. This is the other side of the coin, the pains of using it. Too many sub-par projects. Now, I am not against having people try and build out different approaches but there is a limit to that. For most frameworks that I have needed to try using as many a...

Working with Large Codebases. Diagramming Tools – A (Biased) Survey. Sep 21, 2012. However, not all tools are created equal and there are lots of legacy tools (UML has been around for a while). I wanted to take a look at what is out there to get a sense for how these tools are evolving. By Microsoft (see video. In the author’s wor...

Working with Large Codebases. Docs- Who needs them? Jun 28, 2012. Software documentation is one of those things that is sorely missed when it isn’t there. Why is it the last thing that any of us developers wants to do? It seems that it is easy for us to ignore documenting in the heat of the situation, but we always get burned in one of many ways. There are two situations that I get hammered with often. Ever need to fix code written by someone who is long gone? Users are More Likely to Give it a Try-.
