Zenkoji Temple in the evening » sandy’s blog 2010 – 2014

http://www.archive.sanlive.com/24318/zenkoji-temple-in-the-evening

Sandy’s blog 2010 – 2014. Zenkoji Temple in the evening. 4 January, 2014. We went to Zenkoji Temple. There’s not a lot I can say. All the information about the temple itself is on japan-guide. So please just enjoy these photos. :). It was way way darker than how it looks in the photo, by the way. With the naked eye, everything was oranger, the sky was nowhere near as blue. This camera, even in auto mode with no flash, handles low light beautifully.

Sandy’s blog 2010 – 2014. Things at the science museum, and the Ameyoko market district in Ueno. 27 December, 2013. We went to Ueno yesterday, to check out the National Museum of Nature and Science. And the Ameyoko market district. As much as museums are pretty much all the same, I like walking through at least one when in another country. Understanding the history of a place (or even seeing just how they write their history) gives some interesting context to the culture you’re visiting. It all changed i...

It snowed! » sandy’s blog 2010 – 2014

http://www.archive.sanlive.com/24341/it-snowed

Sandy’s blog 2010 – 2014. 4 January, 2014. We went back to Zenkoji to enjoy the temple vibe in daylight and a gentle snowfall. Sometimes snow would fall from rooves in large chunks, landing with a satisfying thud. Luckily, none on us. This is a gaijin taking a photo of a snow pile. Someone made snowman. :). On the way out, we found some limited edition Kit Kat – shinshu apple flavour, and hot Japanese chilli flavour. So we sat by the window, drinking tea and having snacks.

Christmas was early and full of food » sandy’s blog 2010 – 2014

Sandy’s blog 2010 – 2014. Christmas was early and full of food. 23 December, 2013. All our parties are over, so it kind of feels like Christmas is over now too. Lunch or dinner with my family is the apex of festivities for me. We’re not big on ceremony. I think because we’re that way, the idea of not celebrating is kind of just as family-ish as celebrating. Which all makes Christmas at home just… really comfortable and nice. My sister and I made a gingerbread house. Nailed it, right?

Akihabara and cute, useless things » sandy’s blog 2010 – 2014

Sandy’s blog 2010 – 2014. Akihabara and cute, useless things. 26 December, 2013. From our tiny, tatami room, I hear sounds of things happening outside – a bubble of laughter from a nearby bar, the occasional siren, Japanese words utttered in the universal language of drunk. It makes me fear I’m missing something, but the outside is so cold, and this room is so warm. Ff, Game & Watch, old arcade things, my favourite Twin Bee! This is the gachapon shop we went to – I say ‘the’ shop, but I...What I most wan...
