Argentina Photo Diary

Tuesday, December 9, 2008. Faena Hotel and Universe. Posted by Rick Kappra. This is one of the oldest, and most photographed parts of Buenos Aires. Immigrants who came here painted their houses bright colors with paint left over after painting their fishing boats. It is now very touristy, and outside of the tourist areas, a little dangerous, and very run down. Posted by Rick Kappra. Sunday, December 7, 2008. Posted by Rick Kappra. Posted by Rick Kappra. Argentina Photo Diary: Buzios

http://www.argentinaphotodiary.blogspot.com/2008/12/buzios_5815.html

Sunday, December 7, 2008. Here is a view of our hotel, the Colonna Park Hotel, which sat on a cliff between Joao Fernandes and Joao Fernandihno. It had a nice pool, sauna, clean rooms, but best of all were the views and the fact that we had Joao Fernandihno almost to ourselves (with all of the other people from our hotel). Some rooms smelled musty but I came prepared with lavendar and orange aromatherapy spray. Posted by Rick Kappra. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Faena Hotel and Universe.

Argentina Photo Diary: Buzios

Sunday, December 7, 2008. This is at Pinguim, a little restaurant outside of Joao Fernandes on the way to the center. We passed it often and had a coupon for it and every time we passed it some guy gave us a menu. I really wanted to try feijouda, which is a typical Brazilian dish, and Pinguim had feijouda completa, which I envisioned as this feast with all kinds of yummy things. Posted by Rick Kappra. Out and About in Buenos Aires: September 2008

http://rickinargentina.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html

Out and About in Buenos Aires. Adventures of a temporary ex-pat living, studying, learning, dancing and making mistakes in Buenos Aires. Tuesday, September 30, 2008. Posted by Rick Kappra. Monday, September 29, 2008. A Day Without Vertigo. One thing about being sick is that it helps you to appreciate health. Today I was almost ecstatic because I had a fairly normal day. I felt balanced and clear-headed and didn't have to take any meclizine. It was a lovely day. I watched Byron Katie on Oprah. Oprah h...

Out and About in Buenos Aires: Diane!!!

Out and About in Buenos Aires. Adventures of a temporary ex-pat living, studying, learning, dancing and making mistakes in Buenos Aires. Tuesday, December 23, 2008. Yesterday I wore myself out showing her around. Today I'm going to try not to walk as much. So anyway, I met Diane, who was raring to go after 20 hours of travel. We went to La Payuca, a parilla near her apartment, for lunch. She had a steak and I had a few bites. It was perfect! By this point in the day we needed ice cream, so we went to my ...

Out and About in Buenos Aires: August 2008

Out and About in Buenos Aires. Adventures of a temporary ex-pat living, studying, learning, dancing and making mistakes in Buenos Aires. Sunday, August 31, 2008. Today was one of the best Sundays I've ever had. It felt very complete, it was relaxing, fun and interesting. They destroyed all of the old colonial buildings to construct the neo-classical European style buildings of Avenida de Mayo. It really is classic Buenos Aires. The guy sat down and when we placed our order, he placed his, but then when h...

Out and About in Buenos Aires: November 2008

http://rickinargentina.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html

Out and About in Buenos Aires. Adventures of a temporary ex-pat living, studying, learning, dancing and making mistakes in Buenos Aires. Saturday, November 29, 2008. Today I had my last Arabic class. I brought a ricotta rice pie since my classmate Claudia has been reading my blog and found out I brought one to my Italian class. Plus, I like making it. Next I am going to try making the ricotta pie with pineapple. I have a can of pineapple here waiting for me to open it. Yum! I love pineapple and cheese.

Back in Argentina: Happy and Sad

http://rickinargentina2.blogspot.com/2008/11/happy-and-sad.html

Reflections of a language learner and cultural adventurer maneuvering a familiar yet foreign landscape. Friday, November 7, 2008. Before I went to bed, I checked the status of Proposition 8, which was on the California ballot. It looked like it was winning. When I woke up on Wednesday morning, after only 4 hours sleep, I checked again. It looked like Proposition 8 had won. Posted by Rick Kappra. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Out and About in Buenos Aires. Adventures of a temporary ex-pat living, studying, learning, dancing and making mistakes in Buenos Aires. Saturday, December 27, 2008. Today we met halfway between our apartments and took a taxi to Gurrachaga and Cordoba. There is a shoestore on Gurrachaga that Lorena said I might like, and Diane wanted to go to the Prune outlet on Gurrachaga, but on the other side of Cordoba. I figured we could do both and then I'd show her around the Palermos. Oui Oui is a very cute littl...

Back in Argentina: Cultural Adjustment

http://rickinargentina2.blogspot.com/2008/10/cultural-adjustment.html

Reflections of a language learner and cultural adventurer maneuvering a familiar yet foreign landscape. Friday, October 17, 2008. This week I felt like I moved into the best phase of culture shock - adjustment. This is the time that life in a new culture begins to feel almost like home - with good days and bad days. It is different from that time at the beginning when everything is exciting, and not the same as that time when everything is really difficult. I like the adjustment phase. I think this is cr...

Out and About in Buenos Aires. Adventures of a temporary ex-pat living, studying, learning, dancing and making mistakes in Buenos Aires. Saturday, December 27, 2008. Adventures With Diana - continued. After soaking my legs and feet in a warm bath on Thursday night and again yesterday morning, I was ready to pound the tiled sidewalks again with Diana (that is what we call her here). Oh, I forgot, she is Diana now. By the time we got to Volta I was ready for a rest so we ducked in and had small ice creams&...

Out and About in Buenos Aires. Adventures of a temporary ex-pat living, studying, learning, dancing and making mistakes in Buenos Aires. Tuesday, December 30, 2008. Last Post from Buenos Aires This Year. I'm up very early today. Not sure why I can't sleep, but it's good, as I have a chance to write one more blog post before I leave. After my massage I went to the plaza outside of Facultad de Medicina to buy a few more mates for someone, I don't know who. I like the mates that this guy Walter sells. Herna...

Out and About in Buenos Aires: May 2008

http://rickinargentina.blogspot.com/2008_05_01_archive.html

Out and About in Buenos Aires. Adventures of a temporary ex-pat living, studying, learning, dancing and making mistakes in Buenos Aires. Sunday, May 11, 2008. It has been almost a year since I found myself preparing to visit Argentina for the first time. Then, I knew little about Argentina. Now, as I prepare to return, this time for 5 months, I feel like I am returning home - going back to a place that is familiar. And then I returned home. Did the twin towers collapse only from the impact of the planes ...
