loony life: April 2011
http://jayamadhavan.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
Wednesday, April 20, 2011. As light wanes, the heart searches for love. For me, the beauty of nights has much to do with the colour black — the hue of absorption, mystery, seduction and death. As I look up at the fickle moon bobbing like a ball in the dark November sky with stars flitting around like fireflies I wonder which ignoramus labelled nights as the hour of the demons. What can match the cool beauty, subtle fragrance and deep sexuality of the night? Posted by Jaya Madhavan. Friday, April 15, 2011.

loony life: Ode to Clothes
http://jayamadhavan.blogspot.com/2014/06/ode-to-clothes.html
Saturday, June 28, 2014. Colorful, chaotic, comfortable, well used, well loved, frayed in the edge, patchy in places, fading, gaudy, smooth, sober, silken, lacy and mostly bright, is how I can describe the contents of the wardrobe. But hey presto! The description matches my life too! Is the kid studying at all? 8221; I leave a note for my son on the cupboard, “Your shelf- askew and confusing- like Malinga’s bowling action. I want to see a Kumble.”. Posted by Jaya Madhavan. View my complete profile. When ...

Friday, January 7, 2011. Response to Usha Mukunda's "Discovering Kabir". Thanks much Usha for the warm and detailed response to the book. I am particularly happy that you have documented the responses of young adults to the book. Thank you Dakshayini, Yamuna and Rishon for reading the book. How did the book begin? Is always a welcome question to the author. The answer I am afraid is going to be tad long. Where do I find him? Kabir was a fortuitous encounter. Yes. A life enhancing one. Short stories for t...

loony life: September 2011
http://jayamadhavan.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html
Tuesday, September 13, 2011. A taste of his own medicine. Mannan was totally besotted with the extraordinary instrument called the telephone that had arrived, bright and black, in neighbour Achari Mama’s household. Instead of posting letters and replying to replies, one could just pick up the phone and talk to the desired person! 8221; If only he could speak to some girl on the telephone and impress her. 8220;Phone calls are expensive and cost 50p per call,” dissuaded grandmother Sitamma. loony life: When the butterfly died on me....
http://jayamadhavan.blogspot.com/2014/06/when-butterfly-died-on-me.html
Sunday, June 15, 2014. When the butterfly died on me. Two days hence when we returned, we found the butterfly on the floor, in a room different from where we saw it last. Its wings were intact. Only its legs seemed bent, like a fractured green twig. Had the maid left the fan on and injured the butterfly on its way out? 8220;What can we feed it? 8221; my son asked worriedly. There was no honey in the house. What about ghee? After a while my daughter reported excitedly, “Dit is get-upping.”. A Tid and a Bit.

loony life: August 2011

Tuesday, August 30, 2011. The Power of Spit. 8220;Our saliva has great cleaning and healing properties,” Mannan stated and immediately Jana spat into her hands and began applying saliva over her eye sty which had erupted owing to too much fun under the afternoon sun. Red and round the sty looked like a red chilli ready to be tossed in oil. It sure burnt like one. 8220;Poor Jana, do you need our spit too? 8221; Appu and Lal, the next door siblings asked generously. 8220;Stop, stop, please stop. We wil...
