Wednesday, October 27, 2010. Oldthinker Doubleplusgood 1984 Readwise or, Winston and I would like our bullets now, please. October 27, 2010 at 10:43 PM. You present many interesting approaches to teaching this novel. I particular like how you state that students could really have fun with Newspeak and doublethink. Maybe if I focus on the manipulation of language, then students can have fun with it and also get meaning from one particular motif in the novel. Am I allowed to do something like this? One las...

Lauren's Blog: The Wilson Smith Show?
http://laurenbomberger.blogspot.com/2010/10/wilson-smith-show.html
Wednesday, October 27, 2010. The Wilson Smith Show? Did this book kind of remind anyone of the movie "The Truman Show? It certainly had that affect on me but hey, I could be the only one. Let's try another comparison. Did Winston's inability to say or think anything negative in regards to the political party remind you of Harry Potter's inability to speak about Voldermort? Maybe that's too much of a stretch as well. Why, out of all of these books that we read, can't the couple end up together? These word...

Tuesday, August 31, 2010. And To Kill a Mockingbird. I enjoyed most of the literature I read in my junior high and high school English classes. I would consider myself a motivated reader because I enjoy it. I hope to inspire my students the same way I was inspired, by showing them it can be enjoyable. Reading not only has an immediate educational advantage, it also increases vocabulary and promotes critical thinking. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). IT'S NOT WHAT YOU SAY, BUT HOW YOU SAY IT! Gone on a Sunday.

Lauren's Blog: One Killer of a Book
http://laurenbomberger.blogspot.com/2010/10/one-killer-of-book.html
Wednesday, October 6, 2010. One Killer of a Book. This book was totally creepy/morbid. I mean what else can you expect though when the point of view of your story is told from Death himself. I read it at night and was kind of perturbed. However, I'm interested, why this girl? Liesel and her brother Werner are in the train on the way to their foster home when Werner coughed and stared blankly as Death came and noticed Liesel for the first time. Encounter Two:. So clearly we have a theme of death in this s...

Friday, October 22, 2010. Bauerlein is ignorant and lazy. How dare he pin the blame on his students! Where is HIS responsibility to move with the times and teach his students. The technology that will never ever go away no matter how much he whines about it? Should break the barriers of technology. We. Should be the first to know. We. Winston learns a valuable lesson about thoughts. They won't go away. No matter how much propaganda one listens to about newspeak and the thought police, a person's ...I tot...

English 426 Blog: Hmmmm....

Wednesday, October 13, 2010. When I was assigned Anne Frank Diary of a Young Girl. Years ago in one of my English classes, I did not read it. I liked almost every book I was assigned in high school, so I read all of the books I was assigned. except this one. I do not think it was the diary form I disliked, because I am currently reading Dracula. Is a much more powerful book. I feel like Anne Frank. Almost everyone loved it, right? I also know some other people who feel the same way about Anne Frank.
