Tastes, tricks and techniques – from my family to yours. February 26, 2010. This week’s recipe is a take on a childhood favorite, albeit a touch healthier than the version I knew back then. Hand pies are fairly ubiquitous throughout the South and in true Southern fashion are almost always fried. And her contraband KitKat Bars next door, there was our babysitter Tootie. Yields 8-10 hand pies. 1 recipe vinegar pie crust. Or your favorite double crust recipe). 3 1/4 cups milk. 1/2 cup plus 2 tsps sugar.
