Current work is largely in encaustics (bees wax). This medium is a malleable material that accepts oil paint and other pigments. I create texture by the layering of color/medium, and the image is built up or scraped back to obscure or reveal micro and macro patterns.

It is a painting of a photograph I took in Venice Italy around 2000. It is one my personal favorites and I like the way it captures the light of Venice. The water shows a shimmering depth and the perspective draws you towards the sunburnt facades on the waters edge and up along the canal as it winds out of view. VENICE -by Vi Steinke. Feb. 2012.
