Anti-Dismal: Williamson and the theory of firm
http://antidismal.blogspot.com/2009/10/williamson-and-theory-of-firm.html
A blog on all things to do with economics and related subjects. Friday, 16 October 2009. Williamson and the theory of firm. As is well known Oliver Williamson won this years Nobel Prize. As Peter Klien writes. The economics Nobel committee summarises. Williamson's theoretical framework is four steps,. The first two points are relatively uncontroversial, but the third may require an explanation. Why do bargaining costs tend to be higher when it is harder to switch trading partners? Williamson work has len...
Anti-Dismal: Venezuela powers down
http://antidismal.blogspot.com/2015/04/venezuela-powers-down.html
A blog on all things to do with economics and related subjects. Thursday, 30 April 2015. Things just keep on getting worse in Venezuela. From. We get this bit of news,. Venezuela says it will cut the working day for public sector workers to five-and-a-half hours to conserve energy, down from eight to nine hours. The initiative is part of a nationwide electricity rationing plan. Mr Arreaza said private companies would be asked to use their own generators to reduce pressure on the national grid. Higher pri...
Anti-Dismal: NZ econ blogs (updated)
http://antidismal.blogspot.com/2009/07/nz-econ-blogs.html
A blog on all things to do with economics and related subjects. Wednesday, 29 July 2009. NZ econ blogs (updated). Matt Nolan, who clearly doesn't have a life! That New Zealand has a population of 4.3m and 12 economics blogs so that is approximately one blog per 358,333 307,143 people. Note that Matt says. All the blogs I have linked to have a lot of economics opinions in them, even if this isn’t their primary description. To me this makes them worthy of being called an economics blog. No More Nuggets: October 2010
http://nuggetsnpizza.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
Thursday, October 28, 2010. I tried a recipe Mark Bittman published in Parents. Magazine for butternut squash soup. Thanks to the short ingredient list and my sharp knife, it was easy to make. The curry flavor was really strong- next time I'll start with 1 teaspoon curry powder instead of the 1 Tablespoon recommended in the recipe. Otherwise, the soup had a sweet flavor and a thick, creamy texture. I served it with a loaf of oatmeal bread. Here is the version of Bittman's soup that I made:. 1 can great n...
No More Nuggets: March 2010
http://nuggetsnpizza.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html
Wednesday, March 31, 2010. Last night we had cheese ravioli with tomato sauce. And pan-roasted broccoli. I cooked some frozen ravioli from Sam's. According to Jacob, the highlight of the meal was the broccoli. An article on cooking vegetables in Cook's Illustrated. Inspired me to try cooking some standard veggies in new ways. The article recommended sauteing peas in butter instead of boiling them. Jacob loved this method- although, he never complained about boiled peas. 1 3/4 lb broccoli. Salt, to taste.
Anti-Dismal: Is competition policy outdated?
http://antidismal.blogspot.com/2015/04/is-competition-policy-outdated.html
A blog on all things to do with economics and related subjects. Sunday, 26 April 2015. Is competition policy outdated? As the economy changes so should competition policy. But does it? The European Commission has formally charged Google with anti-competitive practices, the latest twist in a case that was first launched way back in 2010. The EU’s competition watchdog accuses the US tech giant of systematically favouring results from its own specialist search engine, Google Shopping, over competi...A quest...

http://antidismal.blogspot.com/2015/05/risk-aversion-and-firm.html
A blog on all things to do with economics and related subjects. Sunday, 3 May 2015. Risk aversion and the firm. A bit over a week ago in the comments. To a post James asked,. Can I make a request for a topic? Since you're the resident expert on the theory of the firm, can you write something about any work that's been done on risk averse firms? I've been away but now I'm back at home I can attempt a rough answer. Better late than never, I hope. Marcus Asplund has a 2002 paper on 'risk-averse firms in oli...
Anti-Dismal: Britain's housing crisis
http://antidismal.blogspot.com/2015/05/britains-housing-crisis.html
A blog on all things to do with economics and related subjects. Friday, 1 May 2015. This short video comes from The Economist. Rocketing prices and limited construction are putting home ownership out of reach for many young Britons. As the election nears, few politicians have a realistic solution. Obviously the particulars in the video pertain to the situation in the U.K. but the general problems are more universal. Just think of the housing problems in Auckland.
