A Small Step Back. Archive for April, 2007. Ignoring our history in Iraq. Seeing as how this is my first post of this blog, and that so much of the current political discourse is revolving around Iraq, I thought I’d write about something I first heard about back in 1999 but have been reading a little bit about lately. The recent execution of Saddam Hussein was over reprisal […]. Filed under: International Politics. Ignoring our history in Iraq. Blog at WordPress.com. A Small Step Back.

Ignoring our history in Iraq | A Small Step Back

https://asmallstepback.wordpress.com/2007/04/08/ignoring-our-history-in-iraq

A Small Step Back. Ignoring our history in Iraq. Despite having broken the Iraqi Army and pushed deep inside of Iraq, the US (and coalition) forces were told to stand down and not assist the rebellion. Despite pleas for arms from Shiites in the south, US troops destroyed any Iraqi weapons stockpiles they had captured. As a result the civilians were largely unarmed when what was left of the Iraqi Army moved to attempt to put down the uprising. Filed under: International Politics. Feed for this Entry.

A Small Step Back. Ignoring our history in Iraq. Over the past few weeks, there has been widespread (for an environmental issue) news coverage of the progressing Georgia drought. The actual drought is spread over several states, but the tidbit that got national attention was the realization that Atlanta only has less than three months of water left, with little rain on the extended forecast. Extended droughts lead to cascading problems. A much bigger issue could be electricity. The systems were designed ...

I miss my market | Puzzling Aloud

https://puzzlingaloud.wordpress.com/2008/04/04/i-miss-my-market

I miss my market. April 4, 2008. But what it is I’m eating, where it came from, how it go so darn tasty, etc. I was reading an article about our food system the other day, and the author pointed out that as kids grow up they get the founding of the United States pretty much every year, but are never really taught simpler everyday wonders, such as how to make bread. So, here are a few unconnected thoughts:. One Response to “I miss my market”. April 5, 2008 at 4:39 pm. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Create a ...

Since everyone thinks I won’t do it…. | Puzzling Aloud

https://puzzlingaloud.wordpress.com/2008/05/27/since-everyone-thinks-i-wont-do-it

Since everyone thinks I won’t do it…. May 27, 2008. Favorite person (outside family)? I’m pretty much obligated to mention the girlfriend here. Apples and peanut butter, if I’m cooking. The list is longer if someone else has to do the grunt work. I can’t leave a rubik’s cube unfinished. How would the person who loves you most describe you in ten words or less? 8211; In the interest of convenience, I asked the cat and she looked away. Any regrets in life? I give to the Cleveland Foodbank every month.

Sleepy time… | Puzzling Aloud

https://puzzlingaloud.wordpress.com/2008/04/03/sleepy-time

April 3, 2008. 8230;seems to be all the time some days. The hazards of everyone attempting to cram way more things than they probably should into a given day, that energy-destroying sin nearly everyone is guilty of. But it does lead to amusing mornings. Softly, but with increasing enthusiasm: duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh. Louder, and quite off key: “ da da DAAAAA. Da da da da da da da da DAAAAA. All of this is, of course, in jest and with substantial exaggeration. Except the Rocky musi...

Spring Break! | Puzzling Aloud

https://puzzlingaloud.wordpress.com/2008/03/11/spring-break

March 11, 2008. I got offered another contract to do some econ work today. I’m still debating taking it. I’d hoped for a needed break to focus just on school for two months, but given financial circumstances, its hard to turn down a big chunk of money. I feel like Sisyphus, only my rock is student loans and my mountain is…still a mountain I guess. Its not a perfect metaphor. Ever read the ingredients on all of the 100% juice blends at the grocery store? One Response to “Spring Break! Look, a post! Everyo...

March 31, 2008. And I feel productive staying home. I went running, cleaned, read for a useful class, played with the cat and caught up on sleep. I think I’m starting to drift back toward one of my phases where I start judging things moreso on where they fit in my priorities versus where I’m told they are supposed. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. So does not having to drive 40 minutes each way to do laundry. Modest renovations have begun, although we are still somewhat occupying the old apartment. https://puzzlingaloud.wordpress.com/2008/04/02/hornk

April 2, 2008. Around 2:30 this morning, M and I both woke up at the same time. The culprit? Five minutes later, I’m still a bit out of it and standing in the kitchen in my underwear, cutting the nasty spots out of the latest issue of the Economist over the trash can. M is in the other room comforting the cat, having already taken care of the small amount of vomit that wasn’t soaking into my late night reading material. Several thoughts went through my head:. 8211; is this what having a kid is like?

December 16, 2008. Two day’s before the deadline on a huge project for work, I get sick. I blame Megan, also sick, mainly because she is the most conveniently located to offer sympathy, and really easy to get on a guilt trip. More hot tea with honey, please. Office? What office? | Puzzling Aloud

https://puzzlingaloud.wordpress.com/2008/03/29/office-what-office

March 29, 2008. As of last Thursday, I am done working for the next several months. I’m looking forward to the opportunity to concentrate on finishing up my econ degree, and dreading the coming internal struggle between the sudden distractions of free time and the need to put time into research papers. Because when you get down to it, econometric analysis is much less fun than learning how to get really good at Jenga. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Address never made public).

A Small Step For Dan, A Giant Leap For Mankind

A Small Step For Dan, A Giant Leap For Mankind. Friday, June 12, 2015. Rainbow Rim (Grand Canyon). I'm really getting behind in my posts. Hopefully I can catch up soon. Back in June I went with some friends to Kamas with the hopes of doing Buckskin Gulch, one of the longest slot canyons in the world. We had a permit for our entire group, all the equipment we'd need, and two cars to be able to do a shuttle from one end to the other. The only thing we didn't have was clear skies. The Kaibab National Forest...
