Election Day | A Tree Grows in Columbus

https://atreegrowsincolumbus.wordpress.com/2016/11/08/election-day

A Tree Grows in Columbus. Putting down roots in the heart of Ohio. When I was 8 years old, we did a mock election in my third grade class. I saw a woman’s name on the ballot, and instantly marked her as my choice. I didn’t know who she was or what party she ran for, but I had never seen a woman in such a high position, and it gave me hope. Someday, maybe someday, a woman could be president. I am about to vote for a woman for president. And she might actually be our next president. I made my choice. You a...

PR Day! | A Tree Grows in Columbus

https://atreegrowsincolumbus.wordpress.com/2016/02/21/pr-day

A Tree Grows in Columbus. Putting down roots in the heart of Ohio. This month has been a bit out of control. I have felt overbooked most days, and my to-do list never seems to be complete. One thing I have been focusing on is my running, which has become one of my most important hobbies. Running has helped me to lose weight and to stay motivated to be healthy. I had tried to break the one-hour mark during the Thanksgiving Day Race 10k in Cincinnati, but I finished in 1:01:10 – just shy of my goal. You ar...

Teaching | A Tree Grows in Columbus

A Tree Grows in Columbus. Putting down roots in the heart of Ohio. Here in the midwest, it’s been cold. Like subzero-every-night kind of cold. We haven’t gotten the snow like New England has, but the past few days have been blustery, to say the least. What this ends up meaning is that schools close because it’s way too cold for students to walk to school, wait for the bus, or even be outside, period. For teachers, that means that we have school off, too. Lots and lots of paperwork. And sometimes it’s jus...

March | 2015 | sarah's reflections

https://sarahfrelix.wordpress.com/2015/03

I wish you well,. Time to set sail,. And reflect on,. What has been done so well. It has been fun,. To come out of my shell. Playing with words,. And painting a picture,. Made me snicker,. And rhyme even quicker. Never really shared,. Thinking no one cared,. But I glad I dared,. To take this challenge. Received a smile,. And a heart filled sigh. More likely to hide,. Writing opened a door,. I never really explored,. It gives you wings to truly soar,. Above the noise,. Above the clamor,. March 31, 2015.

May | 2015 | sarah's reflections

https://sarahfrelix.wordpress.com/2015/05

We have always heard,. That change is good. It brings us hope,. Of a brighter future. It conjures thoughts,. Of good will and fortune. We have heard that when our change truly comes,. We’ll change for the better. We’ll be dancing instead of heaping,. We’ll be singing instead of weeping,. We’ll be waking instead of sleeping,. We’ll be wiser instead of creeping,. We’ll be reaping a bountiful harvest. But what if the change that comes,. Causes us to gnash our teeth,. To lose our sleep,. Change is good,.

April | 2015 | sarah's reflections

https://sarahfrelix.wordpress.com/2015/04

Time to pray,. Time to say,. What’s working on our Heart’s today. Is it the civil unrest? Or is it the utter distress,. Of many seeking justice? Is it the lack of care? Or is it a subject so taboo,. Don’t mention it,. Oh how do you dare. As I stare at the screen of social media,. I whisper a prayer. Help us to listen to our brothers plight,. Help us to make their burdens light,. Help us to turn our wrongs,. And heal our hurts,. And seek what is right. Help us to be transparent, repentant, and bright.

A Tree Grows in DC

A Tree Grows in DC. Sunday, September 28, 2008. I found my self frustrated and antsy. All this talking about great books and great ideas made me long more for my bed and the pile of books beside it. Labels: how to read. Sunday, August 24, 2008. Wednesday, July 16, 2008. This summer is effing melting my brain. I typed the last paragraph of the previous post out of order. I am not sure how I did that and I promise I re-read my posts a gazillion times because I am a terrible speller. Tuesday, July 15, 2008.

A Tree Grows in London

A Tree Grows in London. Tuesday, February 4, 2014. Peter Thomas was born on January 24, 2014. He was named after my maiden name "Peterka" which means little Peter (my paternal grandfather also went by "Pete" as a nickname of "Peterka") and he has his dad's middle name of Thomas. We've had him home for a week-and-a-half now and are in love with every inch of him! I wrote up his birth story for a blog written by a local midwife ( you can read it here. But I wanted to preserve it on Peter's blog as well.
