Leather! | A Tree on the Moon

https://atreeonthemoon.wordpress.com/2012/09/16/leather

A Tree on the Moon. September 16, 2012. Still haven’t done the post on the second part of the Paper Treatments course, but I just haven’t had enough time. Summer was absolutely wonderful, but now I’m back to school, doing two jobs, and other various things–I’m completely piled up in work, exhausted, and this is just week 1. How will I ever survive this semester! Anyway, I took Bookbinding III at CBBAG last month, and now finally am working on leather bindings! One of my corners and the spines for the two...

Box-making (continued) | A Tree on the Moon

https://atreeonthemoon.wordpress.com/2012/06/26/box-making-continued

A Tree on the Moon. June 26, 2012. Here’s an update on the clamshell boxes that Lumiere Press was working on! We finished them a week and a half ago, but I was so busy with my Paper Treatments workshop (which deserves, and will get, a post of its own) that I hadn’t had time to post here. Anyways, as you can see from the photos below, they turned out beautifully. We then filled the trays with a layer of foam, and inserted a panel over the top to complete the trays. The measurements of each tray had to...

October | 2013 | A Tree on the Moon

https://atreeonthemoon.wordpress.com/2013/10

A Tree on the Moon. Monthly Archives: October 2013. October 21, 2013. It’s roughly been a month since I first got to London, things have been so busy! Settling in took a while, but I’ve finally got most of the essentials sorted out, so all is good. Here are a couple of photos of the book and paper studios–my camera ran out of battery, so I’ll try to get some photos of the other studios next time. Spent the entire day on print identification, fun but rather exhausting. Baxter prints are rather fascinating!

Paper Treatments: Part I | A Tree on the Moon

https://atreeonthemoon.wordpress.com/2012/07/13/paper-treatments-part-i

A Tree on the Moon. July 13, 2012. Paper Treatments: Part I. I went to a Paper Treatments workshop held by CBBAG. A couple of weeks ago, which was very exciting. Here are a couple of pictures of some of the things we dealt with! Measuring the pH of the paper to determine what treatments needed to be done. To avoid unwanted removal of images in delicate pieces, we float washed them and gave extra attention to areas that needed cleaning. Setting our sheets to dry on the rack after sun-bleaching.

NUT ZEN BOLTS « Page 2

Newer posts →. And then I will sew my signatures and assemble the book. Maybe the press will even work. But what I’ve noticed in this whole process, being completely ignorant in respect to book binding, is how instead of doing things to a fine degree, I do haywiring. Why didn’t I make a cabinet quality press. I don’t worry about it, I just say that I don’t know how many books I will bind so good enough is good enough. They can’t have glassine between them. What makes acrylic surfaces non-sticky? No matte...

The Finished Book « NUT ZEN BOLTS

https://nutzenbolts.wordpress.com/2012/08/03/the-finished-book

The zen in all this is just the zen in all this. I got up on stage and played bass and sang in front of 200 people a week ago. Conquering an old fear has changed my life. Tonight I have a opening of abstract drawings; no fear. I am starting to remember people’s names. Something I’ve always been bad at. This is so I can start doing a little community organizing with all the many wonderful artists on the island. Can’t talk to people if you can’t remember their names. Teacher: Encourage others.”. Off to an imaginary land. It’s four in the morning, so I’m already acting like a 20 year-old getting up at noon (London time) after spending all night talking and going to bed at 5:30 in the morning (translates to 9:30 my time). Jet lagged already. rain pouring on the roof. Biplane Photo credit: Bill Longshaw via FreeDigitalPhotos.net. This post is a repeat of a post at omniferous pen, where i will post most of my travel stuff as i tread the way in foreign (to me) climes. This entry was posted in zen.

About my Blog « NUT ZEN BOLTS

https://nutzenbolts.wordpress.com/423-2

Those of you who follow my blog will have noticed a change in my topic. Nutzenbolts is no longer primarily about my experience with zen. It is rather about my interest in art and, as it happens at this time, bookbinding — I am binding my drawings into books. None the less, Zen creeps in here and there, although I may not point it out. My webpage, here. Is a portal to all my visual arts, although it doesn’t not get updated as often as this blog does. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here.

a tree on a hill

A tree on a hill. Sunday, March 23, 2014. The Definition of Grace. It was in Yangon, Myanmar, at the end of May 2008 that everything hit close to home for me. I was the Financial Manager for an American-based INGO, and we went into Myanmar to provide rescuing efforts after cyclone Nargis hit the country. I saw myself in the Burmese people- tanned skin, dark hair and brown eyes. Most of them worked longer hours than I was, yet many of them cannot feed or clothe their own children. Grace in a religious con...

Thursday, April 19, 2007. This is the year for infrastructure. Having purchased our tractor we now need a place to put it and all the shovels and other equipment. So we dug the footings for a shed 20 x 24 feet. Here are some pictures of the progress. Wednesday, April 04, 2007. Gmelina in a year". Today we went out there to take more pictures. The tree we had taken the above photos of was so tall I had to put Pedro on my shoulders. Even then we could not reach it. We forgot the measuring tape ...Found a s...

A Tree Planted | by streams of water

By streams of water. My Brother’s Keeper, (part 2). Asymp; Leave a comment. Then the Lord said to Cain, Where is Abel your brother? He said, I do not know; am I my brother’s keeper? I’ve spent a lot of time lately trying to get my son to mind his own business and leave his sister alone. Recently I looked back through a journal of letters I’ve written to him occasionally since he was born, and the most recent entry caused me to pause:. Am I my brother’s keeper? The story of Cain and Abel seems to imply th...

A Tree Planted by Streams of Water. Tuesday, October 11, 2011. Hanging out at a small restaurant on the riverside. Enjoying some green tea and a warm breeze. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness. For his name's sake.
