The Dirichlet process for dummies (i.e., biologists, like me) – phyletica
http://phyletica.org/dirichlet-process
Photo Credit: Jamie Oaks. The Dirichlet process for dummies (i.e., biologists, like me). Is a very useful tool in Bayesian nonparametric statistics, but most treatments of it are largely impenetrable to a mere biologist with a limited background in probability theory. The goal of this post is to provide an accessible introduction to how the Dirichlet process works and why it’s useful. Or we assign it to an already existing category with probability. We can draw out all possible assignments as a probabili...

Not use Type 3 fonts in PostScript and PDF outputs. I was surprised to find very little information on the interweb about how to do this. You can do this in your. You m...

Is a tool for inferring a sequence alignment and phylogenetic tree using an iterative algorithm. In each iteration, the data set is divided into smaller subproblems by a tree-based decomposition, which are subsequently aligned before being merged back together for phylogenetic tree inference.
