Aunt D's Kitchen. Serious food from a serious home cook. As some of you know, my exciting German adventure began on July 5th. I’ve been keeping a diary of sorts and will be sharing those entries here as internet access allows. I hope you’ll follow along with me! Let’s start with just a few general observations that I’ve made so far:. German drivers are crazy. 9 gallons of gas costs about $75. Lots of people ride bikes here. It’s really, really, really hard to buy a notebook. Sausage is the other. In addi...

Aunt D's Kitchen. Serious food from a serious home cook. Serious food from a serious home cook. From the time I was a small child, mornings were always calm and orderly for me. My mother never overslept, never ran late and never, ever ate a pop tart in the car on her way to work because she didn’t have time for breakfast. Even with three kids to care for, there was…. It’s Taco Salad Time! I’ve never been to Mexico, but it’s definitely my favorite place to eat! I know it looks bad, but it’s not porn. ...

Today I Cooked...: Coconut Curry
http://todayicooked.blogspot.com/2015/04/coconut-curry.html
Tuesday, April 21, 2015. Guys, I'm proud of this one, because I just threw it together without even glancing at a recipe, and it tastes crazy good. Here's what I used:. 2-3 jalapenos depending on your spice preference. 4 large garlic cloves. 3 inch piece of ginger, freshly grated (about 1 TB). Water from one coconut (I bought a fresh one at an Asian market and I think it made all the difference - use a screwdriver to make a hole through the eye and drain the water). 1 TB soy sauce. 2 TB lime juice. http://todayicooked.blogspot.com/2012/12/italian-amaretti-cookies-and-bourbon.html
Monday, December 24, 2012. Italian Amaretto Cookies and Bourbon Hot Toddies. This year, I didn't make any big baking plans for Christmas. My favorite kind of baking is the kind I get to do with little sister A. Sadly for me, she is home in Wyoming with the rest of the family and I am doing the very adult thing of staying behind in too-warm Arizona to celebrate with my in-laws. The result was delightful. I very slightly adapted a Better Homes and Gardens recipe, found here. 1 1/4 cup almond meal*. I made ...

Tuesday, March 10, 2015. Late Winter Meals: Eating Lately (Refried Beans with Veggie Hash and Eggs, Sausage Soup, and Polenta Bowls). It's been a long winter here in Boston. This week we have a reprieve, but since the God of Prediction Nate Silver says. We're probably gonna get more snow, well, I thought I'd better post our late winter staple meals. I'm starting to move onto lighter fare, but I'm sure that these three will make at least one more appearance each before it's really spring. Right before the...
