I have a big update coming about Ben and my trip through Austria for Easter Break, but first I gotta tell you about an awesome ski trip i took with the 2nd class from the HTL to Saalbach Hinterglemm (in Salzburg land). I chose to be in the "slowest" group, which was still pretty fast. My students rock at skiing. The first slope we skied was a black for some reason. Wednesday, June 17, 2009. Permits, Photos, Police, Peet's, and Pretentious Douchebags. Then I had to go to get passport sized photos taken for the permit. I was specifically told by the Austrian people that "no smiling" was allowed. Then I went to the Berkeley Police Department and picked up a letter that stated that after searching their criminal file (amusingly titled CORPUS), I have not been arrested! Saturday, April 10, 2010. Ben's visit / Tour de Austria. Ben arrived here in Graz on the 18th of March. I picked him up from the airport after work and it was so great to see him again! We spent the first few days in Graz seeing the "sights" and also showing him some of my favorite places to go (including a sold out SK Sturm game against their biggest rival SK Rapid Wien and a Graz Philharmonic Orchestra performance in the Opera). Sunday, January 31, 2010. We got to Kitzbühel around 9am, and about an hour later we went to the tourist office where we were meeting the tour leader for snow shoeing in the mountains! I had read that the office organizes this during weekdays in the winter in one of my travel books and thought it sounded neat. We were also there during the Hannenkam downhill ski races, a really famous international event. Because of this, our snow shoeing hike was a bit "special". And a view from where we were standing.
