Our Learn By Doing Life

Our Learn By Doing Life. Friday, August 16, 2013. The first days of school for both of the boys went extremely well! Dash went in without hesitation and according to his aide did awesome throughout the day. He didn't want to do P.E. on the first two days, but if that's the only thing he resisted, I can't complain! I'm so proud of both of them and how well they do in school. Crash has a genuine LOVE of school. He sat up Thursday morning and yelled, "It's the first day of school! Sunday, August 11, 2013.

Our Learn By Doing Life: Dash's First Season With Challenger Little League

http://autisticmommy.blogspot.com/2010/06/dashs-first-season-with-challenger.html

Our Learn By Doing Life. Friday, June 11, 2010. Dash's First Season With Challenger Little League. Dash and Coach Mark. Dash's first season with Challenger Little League (a unique division of little league for kids with special needs) was a big success! He started out apprehensive at first, and would only hit the ball . nothing else. By the end of the season, he ran all the bases (with Mommy or Daddy by his side) and would play the outfield! It was even a learning experience for Grandma!

Our Learn By Doing Life

http://autisticmommy.blogspot.com/2013/08/im-baaaaaack-i-figure-no-sense-trying.html

Our Learn By Doing Life. Saturday, August 10, 2013. I figure no sense trying to get caught up on the past few years at this point, but I'll start off right where life brings us today. Dash is 10 years old now and will be entering the fifth grade on Thursday, and Crash is 7 and will be entering second grade! I know, it's insane how fast they grow. Just took the boys shoe shopping and Dash is in a MEN'S size 8! Mrs B and Dash after the awards reception. Look at that proud smile! Crash has done equally well!

Our Learn By Doing Life: It's Time for Summer Time Fun!!

http://autisticmommy.blogspot.com/2010/06/its-time-for-summer-time-fun.html

Our Learn By Doing Life. Tuesday, June 8, 2010. It's Time for Summer Time Fun! Well, I've been gone from the blogging world for a while, but the end of the school year is just insanely busy. Add to that therapeutic horseback riding every Tuesday night for Dash, Challenger baseball on Wednesday night for Dash, and gymnastics on Thursday night for Crash. So, I finally have time to get caught up! My first plan of action is to plan some fun activities for the boys and me. Gavin just. I just love summer time!

Our Learn By Doing Life: We Meet Again...

http://autisticmommy.blogspot.com/2011/07/we-meet-again.html

Our Learn By Doing Life. Monday, July 4, 2011. By the end of the year he was in the general education classroom full time and doing well. He will begin 3rd grade in general education and we couldn't be more proud. Little brother, Crash, has been growing and ever changing, too. He will be starting kindergarten in the fall, and his words were, "FINALLY! Until we meet again. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

Our Daylight Adventures: May 2010

Monday, May 31, 2010. Phase Change Experiment- Making Butter. I saw this idea somewhere a long time ago and today I had cream that needed to be used so we made butter (otherwise known as a phase change experiment). I filled a jar about 3/4 of the way full with heavy cream- -any container would work. To make butter just shake the container. As you can see Bam was not really into this experiment- Mom, do I really have to shake this- I want to play with my new toy! Wednesday, May 26, 2010. We started with d...

Our Daylight Adventures: July 2010

http://ourdaylightadventures.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html

Sunday, July 4, 2010. Happy 4th of July! Despite trying to think of a red, white, and blue science project, I could not. June was an incredibly busy month for us and we are exhausted. Unfortunately July is turning into another busy month. Hopefully we can enjoy the lazy days of summer in August with many afternoons spent swimming in the lake! I saw these dinosaurs in the grocery store and decided that these would be our science project. To make them grow, we placed in them into warm water.

Sunday, June 27, 2010. I had heard of this experiment before but I didn't realize it was so easy to do. Over at Steve Spangler's website. He sells a tube for dropping the mentos into the 2-L bottle, but it isn't necessary. We were able to create a small geyser that entertained both children and daddy with out it. Bam and Bob running through the sprinklers afterwards. More fun than tanking a bath after this sticky experiment. Sunday, June 20, 2010. Our first project was Morse Code. Thursday, June 10, 2010.

Our Daylight Adventures: Hiking and tarantulas

http://ourdaylightadventures.blogspot.com/2010/10/hiking-and-tarantulas.html

Monday, October 11, 2010. We are very fortunate to live close to a wonderful lake for hiking and swimming. Earlier this summer during a naturalist guided boat tour of the lake, we discovered that one of the coves was named Tarantula Cove. Then last week I heard from somewhere that the tarantulas were out and about at the lake now. So when we entered the park, we asked the attendent about the tarantulas. He told us several things about the spiders so when we were hiking we were on the lookout for them.

Our Daylight Adventures: Books about firefighting

http://ourdaylightadventures.blogspot.com/2010/06/books-about-firefighting.html

Thursday, June 10, 2010. Bam is VERY into all things related to fire engines; therefore, Bob knows a lot about fire engines although he doesn't show quite the same level of interest. In the last few months we have even discovered an author, Chris Demarest, who has written several books about fire fighting. We first discovered this book:. Then about a month ago at our library we found another one of his books:. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. What Bam is reading.

Thursday, February 25, 2010. While the boys were not feeling well, we watched a lot of PBS's Sprout channel and saw this easy craft. The boys and I created our bats and now we are waiting for Daddy to make his bat so we can have a bat family. 1 Fold paper in half. 2 Trace your hand- fingers together, wrist along fold. 3 Cut out hand. 4 Glue to stick. I have one more Olympic themed activity that I will post early next week. Just not enough time to get everything done this week. Monday, February 22, 2010.

Since I didn't have any cute origami paper we used white paper and colored it and glued on eyes. This was a fun activity. Of Japan. For some reason he knows that earthquakes occur in Japan so he thought the lines on the map were earthquakes. Sunday, March 28, 2010. Saturday, March 27, 2010. Thursday, April 29, 2010. Exploring our Neighborhood: visit to local nursery. Today we went on a tour of our local nursery. I am always impressed by this nursery and they did a great job with the tour. The tour started with worms and ladybugs, great way to get the attention of preschoolers. Then the children were given ladybugs to place on the roses. Of course we came home with ladybugs for our roses. For some reason we have lots of ladybugs in our front yard but not out back. Our Daylight Adventures: Tie-dyed milk

http://ourdaylightadventures.blogspot.com/2010/10/tie-dyed-milk.html

Sunday, October 3, 2010. Pie pan or other shallow dish. Milk (2% or whole). Fill pie pan with approximately 0.5 inches of milk. Add several drops of each color around the edge-. Dip toothpick into dish soap. Touch soapy end of toothpick to milk. When the soap tipped toothpick touches the surface of the milk the colors create beautiful patterns. The scientific explanation is too complex for young children, but this doesn’t stop them for watching and enjoying the chemical reaction. View my complete profile.

September 26, 2012. One of the more difficult aspects of having a child on the autism spectrum is how isolating your life is. This isolation is not instantaneous. It creeps up on you slowly. Autistic Mystic

Monday, June 4, 2012. Yesterday I spoke in a poem about letting go. Tonight I want to talk about change. Personally I often find this word scary. Worse than a 4 letter word. Especially when I'm not the one to make the choice to change. Being autistic change is pretty much a dirty word. Change is letting go and moving forward. Change is taking a risk. Change is a chance to let faith lead us. Giving God/dess a chance to get us to where we need to be. Change is f'ing scary! Why to I feel its a scary change?
