Pat in Italy: Reflections from Marsala
http://patinitaly.blogspot.com/2009/03/reflections-from-marsala.html
A travel account of a walk through Italy, starting at the Swiss border and ending at Marsala, the westernmost tip of Sicily. Thursday, March 12, 2009. My denial stage manifested itself in a long walk to Marsala, to reach a symbolic objective, the westernmost tip of Sicily, lest I regret later not having reached it now. Still, even if it was artificial, it helped me begin to sort through these feelings. I guess I needed to take a walk to clear my head. But what about the others? March 15, 2009 at 11:32 PM.

Pat in Italy: Marsala
http://patinitaly.blogspot.com/2009/02/marsala.html
A travel account of a walk through Italy, starting at the Swiss border and ending at Marsala, the westernmost tip of Sicily. Wednesday, March 11, 2009. 1/9 - Trapani to Marsala - 19.80 miles. What do you do when you have walked 116 days out of the last six months, and you have nowhere else to go? How do you sort out the emotions that come the day after, a flash-flood of uncertainty that drowns any attempt at recovering control? Where do you go to get back on track? No time to contemplate. No exaggeration...

Pat in Italy: Trapani
http://patinitaly.blogspot.com/2009/01/trapani.html
A travel account of a walk through Italy, starting at the Swiss border and ending at Marsala, the westernmost tip of Sicily. Sunday, March 8, 2009. 1/8 Erice to Trapani - 9.54 miles. I took a picture, examined the rocks, was happy to be alone and hidden behind the tower, and turned to go. Yeah right. I jumped that railing, edged my way down a steep set of stairs hewn into the sea wall, and carefully walked out onto the rocks, catching a picture of the tower from behind. No such luck, at least not for now.

Pat in Italy: Monte Erice, and the land of Canaan
http://patinitaly.blogspot.com/2009/02/monte-erice-and-land-of-canaan.html
A travel account of a walk through Italy, starting at the Swiss border and ending at Marsala, the westernmost tip of Sicily. Saturday, February 28, 2009. Monte Erice, and the land of Canaan. 1/7 - Custonaci to Erice - 13.91. When I got to the top, I walked through one last pine grove, up a steep (and painful) bank, and had suddenly reached the enchanted medieval town of Erice. I could almost touch it, and I savored the immense satisfaction of my great victory, oblivious to the frigid wind mercilessly whi...

Pat in Italy: What I learned from my trip to the vineyard
http://patinitaly.blogspot.com/2008/10/what-i-learned-from-my-trip-to-vineyard.html
A travel account of a walk through Italy, starting at the Swiss border and ending at Marsala, the westernmost tip of Sicily. Tuesday, October 7, 2008. What I learned from my trip to the vineyard. So what did I learn from the seven days spent working on a vineyard? I learned, therefore, to appreciate a well-groomed and meticulously maintained plot of land. It is a constant struggle, and even difficult on the soul, as one must ruthlessly destroy and worship the land, often simultaneously. There is nothing ...

Pat in Italy: A day never to forget
http://patinitaly.blogspot.com/2008/11/day-never-to-forget.html
A travel account of a walk through Italy, starting at the Swiss border and ending at Marsala, the westernmost tip of Sicily. Sunday, November 23, 2008. A day never to forget. 11/11 - Praiano to Amalfi - 10.43 miles. It was not up to snuff. I had one beach day left in the year, I figured, and I would be damned if I would spend it in the shade on an ugly little beach with a sub par view of Positano. Well, it was not as bad as all that, but I knew I could do better. The November Mediterranean took my breath...
