A Garota de Valle Crucis. Sarah goes to Brazil. Posted by: Sarah Schoenfeldt. December 4, 2009. Today was supposed to be the day of my last surfing class or hiking to Cristo, but then I woke up to the sound of rain of course, Rio, thanks a lot. So instead of doing any of those exciting things, I thought I’d blog some more (2 days in a row? And now for some other Rio/Brazil-related blogs. First there’s Rio etc. People. But then every now and then there’s something that resonates, like this. The beach pict...

A Garota de Valle Crucis. Sarah goes to Brazil. Posted by: Sarah Schoenfeldt. November 17, 2009. While my plans for next semester aren’t exactly finalized, my current flight home leaves one month from today (! It was one of the record-breaking hot days, but we still managed to do lots of walking around the beaches and the city. We also stumbled upon the campus of UFF, the Universidade Federal Fluminense, where I almost studied abroad. It had a nice view of Rio, but I’m glad I ended up on the othe...Siden...

A Garota de Valle Crucis. Sarah goes to Brazil. Posted by: Sarah Schoenfeldt. December 3, 2009. This past Sunday was my capoeira group’s batizado, which is where everyone gets a cordão (cord think karate belts) and was a big event. But before I get too ahead of myself, let me back up and try to explain what exactly capoeira is. But if a picture is worth a thousand words, a vídeo. Must be about a million, so here’s a couple of the guys from my class at the batizado. Fica bonito, né? On December 4, 2009.

A Garota de Valle Crucis. Sarah goes to Brazil. Posted by: Sarah Schoenfeldt. November 8, 2009. Tá quente pra caralho. Even though all the weather forecasts in Brazil have been ridiculously misleading in the past, they seem to mostly agree that we’ll have some cooler days and rain this week. I have to say that I’m looking forward to some clouds (although not the humidity so much). So that’s all for now, more updates on things other than the weather later. Laquo; Recife and back. A Garota de Valle Crucis. Sarah goes to Brazil. Posted by: Sarah Schoenfeldt. October 27, 2009. I’ve been back in Rio for over a week now, but it’s obviously taken me a little while to get back to the blogging. I wanted to keep it short and sweet, but it was an eventful week so I decided to do a couple of installments instead. Also, if you’re more of a visual person, there are pictures. I had 2 street-crossing incidents in 2 days, and have been kind of paranoid every time I leave the house since then.

A Garota de Valle Crucis. Sarah goes to Brazil. Posted by: Sarah Schoenfeldt. December 14, 2009. I constantly find myself wondering where the time goes, especially since I’ve been meaning to post for over a week now and I’m leaving in. So this will be my attempt at a “quick” summary of the almost end of my time in Brazil (it’s been busy though):. There was a group of us taking a bus back to Copa and it was an crazy ride! The closest to Rio Carnaval I’m going to get (for a while at least) was this w...

A Garota de Valle Crucis. Sarah goes to Brazil. Posted by: Sarah Schoenfeldt. November 11, 2009. There wasn’t much to do in the apartment with no light or electricity. Thinking of all the places it would have been worst to be when the power went out was fun though: in an elevator, on the metrô, at a futebol game, on a plane, in traffic, etc. And we experimented with pitanga flavored cachaça drinks. And then after a few hours the power came back on! It looked a little something like this:. You are comment...
