Just another WordPress.com weblog. That was a year that was …. On April 15, 2011 by glen2508. In the past year I think I’ve racked up more travel miles than in the previous three rolled together. A rough calculation puts it at twenty plus internal plane journeys, six international ones, about 14 long distance sleeper trains and a good few sleeper buses too. Just another WordPress.com weblog. On February 15, 2011 by glen2508. Happy Chinese New Year. It’s the first day back after the Chinese New Year holidays and it’s snowing. I’ve been told it’s a good sign but then again nearly everything here converts into being a good sign apparently. Just another WordPress.com weblog. On February 17, 2011 by glen2508. On Saturday evening the wiring system in my apartment announced with a loud bang that it had had enough and was finally giving up. It was, after all, literally hanging on. I mean wires hanging loose, sockets not secured and so on. So once again I was without light, electricity and hot water. The joy of living in an old low-rent place in downtown Xi’an. I didn’t have the heart to tell them what a UK spark would charge just for a call out.

Circa about 1954 or earlier, and made locally by none other than the Shaanxi Washing Machine Factory. Don’t you just love the simple names companies used to use? After a few days of Wedgewood blue skies, a crisp wind and clean air the city is once again shrouded in grey mist and smog. Yesterday I could see for miles. Today I can see just four blocks out.
