A Year of Random Kindness: February 2012

http://ayearofrandomkindness.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html

Wednesday, February 29, 2012. Today, the sun broke through the clouds and gave us a preview of the spring weather we’ve been wanting. Kids shed winter coats. Walkers came out from hibernation. Looking out my kitchen window, I can imagine my summer garden. Sunny weather after weeks of dreary days does this. I bring two bouquets of yellow daisies to the school secretaries and then quietly sneak into the resource room where the education assistants work and place two more bouquets there. Out of Time and Tuna.

A Year of Random Kindness: January 2013

http://ayearofrandomkindness.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html

Thursday, January 31, 2013. My oldest might not consider my disciplining him a kindness but in time (and I mean adulthood) he will. When you’re ten, it’s hard to listen to your mom rant and rave. Did you do your homework? We’ll call these the “just living” nags. Add on top of these the “not in my house” list (What word did you just day? And any 10-year-old’s brain might explode. Every day, our oldest inches closer to figuring out who he is and who he wants to be. One guess who’s in the creek. 8221; I ask.

A Year of Random Kindness: January 2012

http://ayearofrandomkindness.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html

Tuesday, January 31, 2012. I forget to put our own trash out so the fact that I remember to pull out my traveling neighbor’s today is a miracle. But isn’t that always the case? You dutifully water a neighbor’s flowers every day while your own wilt in the summer sun. You collect a friends’ papers at the same time a nice collection of circulars dot the end of your driveway. It makes me think of the cobbler’s kids and what things I’m not doing for my own that I’m willingly doing for others. 8221; A seasoned...

A Year of Random Kindness: Teacher. Teacher.

http://ayearofrandomkindness.blogspot.com/2013/03/teacher-teacher.html

Wednesday, March 20, 2013. Each spring, Montgomery Elementary hosts a staff appreciation luncheon for the hard-working folks at our sister school in Over-The-Rhine. I drag A. along to Costco to pick up sandwiches and enough cake to feed an army. Another mom shops for several door prizes and gift cards to be given away. Other parents work from home, chopping and creating salads they’ll bring to school for today’s feast. I explain to A. that it’s a team effort. Lots of hands will help today. 8221; he asks.

A Year of Random Kindness: April 2012

http://ayearofrandomkindness.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html

Monday, April 30, 2012. I’m standing in a field filled with five-year-old boys for A.’s weekly soccer team meeting at the Y. Watching from the sidelines, one might wonder if they’re at the same practice. One boy hops up and down in a goal. Another steps up onto a soccer ball, attempts to balance on one foot before crashing to the ground in a fit of giggles. A stares across the field at something no one else can see. He’ll tell me later this only proves the existence of his super powers.). I pick it up.

A year of pumpkins. Wednesday, March 27, 2013. Pumpkin and Spinach Strata. Magazine. Here's what they have to say about it: "A terrific make-ahead breakfast strata from baker and pastry chef Zoe Nathan, who uses multigrain bread to add a distinct flavor to this satisfying casserole." This really is good, but not just for breakfast, we ate it for lunch, too. I made a half recipe using a 9 x 9-inch pan and substituted spinach for the kale. Thursday, March 21, 2013. A Year of Rambling | My journey through 2013

A Year of Rambling. My journey through 2013. Another year has nearly passed. It’s weird to think that it’s been nearly a year since I was here and so much has changed in my life. Right now I am sitting at the edge, trying to keep my head above water and not keep everyone else happy. Health wise I am playing that yoyo game and back to where I was at the beginning of the year. 2012 was a year of doing what made me happy, as I would describe it. This wasn’t overly successful as whilst doing things...To be w...

A Year of Random Kindness

Tuesday, April 2, 2013. Not an End, Only a Beginning. I’ve been dragging my heels a bit in the sand anxious to type up our last random act. Although this year has clearly changed the way we think about kindness and finding ways to incorporate it into our daily lives, typing Day 365 still felt like an end to something. That’s when I realized it was only the beginning. For the last several weeks, I’ve met with some folks to help plan a permanent kindness club for Cincinnati. We have big plans, Cincinnati.
