It is broken with what is called an ‘open bone,’ meaning the break was exposed to the air. The doctor was concerned because it is so close to the joint and very susceptible to infection. Friday, June 30, 2006. June 29, 2006-A visit to the NICU. From Tanaya who is in Portland for Silas’ one-month-out-of-the-NICU check up:. He hadn’t even gained an ounce. The bottom dropped out from under our roller coaster. We were plunging back to earth. I cried. Not only does he prefer it, he is refusing to take his nourishment from the bottle. While this brings no end of good to my mother's heart, it still means that his failure to grow needs to be addressed. I desire to help them, but what can I do?

Wednesday, January 31, 2007. February 1,2007 Life. Death. Reality. Well, Silas *is* finally growing. I have proof. Not only is he out stretching his clothes, but the doctor's visit confirmed it. He is a whopping 17lbs 3oz. and is maintaining his growth curve at the sixth percentile. His length however, is exceeding his growth curve and he has now "inched" his way into the fiftieth percentile. Way to go Little Bear! Steven Spielburg could use it in his Sci-Fi movies.
