About Bacchus

Is based in Tonbridge and originally started in 1988 under the auspices of Kent Music. We became independent in 2006 and now rehearse fortnightly at Judd School in Tonbridge. Our aims are to provide local players with the opportunity to explore the large and diverse range of serious music written or arranged for wind orchestra, and to give our audiences a chance to hear this music. At the heart of Bacchus's existence is the fact that we play because we enjoy performing challenging repertoire to a high standard, and we aim to communicate this to our audiences. For our indoor concerts we tend to choose music written originally for wind orchestra: from well-known classical composers such as Grainger and Vaughan Williams, and also contemporary masters of the genre such as Philip Sparke, Guy Woolfenden and Nigel Hess. Rehearsals

Bacchus rehearses on Wednesday evenings, 8pm-10pm, at Judd School in Tonbridge. We typically rehearsing on the 1st, 3rd and 5th (if it exists) Wednesday of each month during school term-time. This gives us typically 25 rehearsals per year. We also have rehearsals on the day of our formal concerts. There is,of course, variation in this - extra rehearsals are aimed for especially before concerts. Maps : For SatNav, the postcode is TN9 2PN. This year has been busy! We had a formal concert in April, and we have four Summer Bandstand visits arranged. Starting at 7:30pm - Our formal concert to start the year was at. St John's Church, Tunbridge Wells. Thanks to all who made this happen - It needed and got special effort. 12th June - Grosvenor and Hilbert Recreational Ground, Tun. Wells 2.00-4.00. Despite a lot of rain at just the wrong time, the team at FoGH got cover up, and we played. Thanks everyone for sticking it out!
