Welcome to Back Creek. Admittedly, this is a little late, but i just had to post it! Winter 2011. Ice storm. The West Virginia fish stocking truck slid off the road and overturned at the base of the Allegheny mountain. Word traveled fast (this IS Highland County! And even though Pat was sick and i was hobbling about, we went down and filled a trash bag with live fish - they were scattered everywhere! Spent an hour cleaning and freezing them…. Welcome to Back Creek. As Gracie and I go on our walks and pick up trash along Back Creek, God rewards us with special gifts. Sometimes it is a beautiful sunrise, or the sound of the creek, other days it is a shed antler, or a rare flower. This day, I let out a gasp - the flower was so pretty and unexpected! It is a Fawn lily (Erythronium americanum). It is also called the Trout lily or Dog-toothed violet… now how can one beautiful flower be named after three different animals? Tagged: on back creek.
