Backpacking Foods

http://www.backpackingchef.com/backpacking-foods.html

Backpacking Foods for Breakfast. What backpacking foods get me going in the morning? I start the day with a hearty breakfast like homemade oatmeal with dried fruit, loaded grits, sweet potato porridge or scrambled eggs. Instant oatmeal and grits are convenient just tear open the package and mix with hot water but the former has more sugar than sulfite preserved fruit pieces in it and the latter contains partially hydrogenated oil and artificial flavors. Cinnamon Apple Raisin, Fruit and Nut with Chocolate.

Backpacking Cookware

http://www.backpackingchef.com/backpacking-cookware.html

My backpacking cookware collection began with a small pot and a tuna fish can. I cooked the main meal in the small pot and sides of vegetables and hot apple sauce in the tuna fish can. I stopped cooking in tuna fish cans because they have a plastic epoxy lining which contains BPA, a hazardous chemical which may have leached into my food after being liberated by the heat of the stove. If you ever see me hiking or writing in circles, that is probably the reason. Good-bye tuna can, hello fry pan lid. The EC...

Food Dehydrator Recipes

http://www.backpackingchef.com/food-dehydrator-recipes.html

How to Make Bark. While working on food dehydrator recipes for mashed potatoes, I blended boiled potatoes and broth to a smoothie-like consistency and spread the mixture thinly on dehydrator trays. The potatoes dried into brittle sheets that easily broke into what I call, "Bark.". One thing led to another, and soon I was blending and dehydrating other starchy foods like beans, creamed corn, pasta marinara, and. Step-by-Step food dehydrator recipes for bark. Bean bark shown above. Click any of the bark to...

Macaroni and Cheese Recipes

http://www.backpackingchef.com/macaroni-and-cheese.html

Macaroni and Cheese Recipes. For these macaroni and cheese recipes, I borrow the cheese powder and macaroni from Annie’s Homegrown or Back to Nature brands. These brands contain no artificial ingredients and the cheese powder rehydrates into a nice cheesy sauce. You will use one third of the cheese power and almost half of the macaroni from the package for these recipes. I assemble several meals at one time using the contents from several boxes. Nothing goes to waste. Ham and Cheese Macaroni. Add all ing...

http://outdoordiversion.blogspot.com/2015/06/mount-eisenhower-via-crawford-path.html

Saturday, June 20, 2015. Mount Eisenhower via Crawford Path. The weather forecast was indicating prime conditions for a day of hiking. My hike today would take me over two 4,000 footers. Sun rising through early morning fog. When I got t...

Saturday, January 31, 2015. Veterans Appreciation Day at Bretton Woods. Another weekend and another free day of skiing for military veterans. Today was the annual Veterans Appreciation Day at Bretton Woods and they were offering free lift tickets to military active duty and retirees. This is a great show of support for Americas veterans and this is one veteran that appreciates it. I would be joined today by my son Brandon who was looking forward to shredding the new powder with his snowboard. We elected ...
