Back seat reviewer: October 2007

http://www.backseatreviewer.blogspot.com/2007_10_01_archive.html

Monday, October 15, 2007. Mass murderer's momma with mass appeal. I'd never before read anything by Lionel Shriver. The subject matter of her literary achievement (winner of the Orange Prize) would never had tempted me were it not for its recommendation by two women whose writing taste I admire greatly - Anke and Lauren. (Now, thanks to our wedding and various accommodation logistics, the pair are now both fast friends as they are more literarily compatible with each other than either are with me! Few Su...

Back seat reviewer: My first Dutch novel

http://www.backseatreviewer.blogspot.com/2007/10/my-first-dutch-novel.html

Thursday, October 4, 2007. My first Dutch novel. Yesterday at about 2pm, I finished my very first Dutch language novel,. By Khaled Hosseini. All 350 pages of it. There's not a lot I can really say about its being a literary masterpiece, because half the time I was just happy to know what was going on. But this time, that was the object. What I feel most triumphant about is that it's the first book in ages that I've cried during reading . and not once, not twice, but. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Back seat reviewer: What's with the rear seating possie?

http://www.backseatreviewer.blogspot.com/2007/02/whats-with-rear-seating-possie.html

Monday, February 26, 2007. What's with the rear seating possie? I've called this blog. Think I'm qualified to review arty things. But I like to and can read/see/hear. I suspect that I have some thinking capabilities too. So, these factors combined may suggest that I could convey my opinion on material I've read, seen or heard. I started posting entries about such seen/heard/read things on my other blog, www.chasingparadise.blogspot.com. Australian girl's adventures in the Netherlands.

Back seat reviewer: It really does take two to tango

http://www.backseatreviewer.blogspot.com/2007/03/it-really-does-take-two-to-tango.html

Sunday, March 4, 2007. It really does take two to tango. That's why I'm at home right now, instead of at Salon Tango Tarro in Gonnie's Theatre of Taste, in Eindhoven. (See http:/ www.tangotarro.nl/. For more). But going solo is a pretty wussy excuse. So, next week I'm going to try to get to the Tipo Tango Salon, also in Eindhoven, next Sunday. (See http:/ www.tipotango.nl/. And I will go alone, as Edwin's tango is non-existent at this point. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

Back seat reviewer: March 2007

http://www.backseatreviewer.blogspot.com/2007_03_01_archive.html

Sunday, March 25, 2007. It's only taken me 7 months to get to a tango event, but I've finally done it. Edwin good-naturedly let me to drag him along to the bi-monthly. Sunday night salon, which is held in an old seminary for the Augustine priests, near the Dommel canal. After an hour of watching and looking at prospective dance partners expectantly (and outright ignoring my life-partner, Ed), I admitted defeat and started to gather my things. However, the perceptive. Her name was Jane. That's why I'm at ...

Diary of an Australian girl's adventure in the Netherlands. Poems, short stories, pictures and anecdotes. Sunday, May 27, 2007. We've had all seasons over the last 4 weeks, and as a family we've had more excuses to celebrate than you can poke the proverbial stick at. Chasing Paradise: January 2007

http://chasingparadise.blogspot.com/2007_01_01_archive.html

Diary of an Australian girl's adventure in the Netherlands. Poems, short stories, pictures and anecdotes. Friday, January 26, 2007. Things are somewhat different this Australia Day than it has in the past, for as you see, it snows in my new home. And while I, like many Australians, find the our national celebration of January 26 rather difficult knowing what horrors the colonists brought to Indigenous Australians, today I simply can't help but think of this beautiful land that is still my country. This n...

Diary of an Australian girl's adventure in the Netherlands. Poems, short stories, pictures and anecdotes. Sunday, February 25, 2007. Facing up to a literary period. I have officially finished reading my first book for the year. (Admittedly, I started it in November 2006, I think). A brilliant travelogue/memoir by Jan Morris,. I am now well into my first novel for the year. It's. Vernon God Little,. God of Small Things. For exactly the same reasons. For example, "She's slow, she's sweaty, her features hud...

Diary of an Australian girl's adventure in the Netherlands. Poems, short stories, pictures and anecdotes. Thursday, July 19, 2007. Introducing a new Mrs! We did it, Ed and I tied the knot last Saturday, 14 July 2007. While we all think that our wedding day should be the happiest day in our lives, Ed and I would say that Saturday fell nothing short of our expectations and in fact was a perfect day. Since then, the last five days have been even better than the one preceding. View my complete profile.

Chasing Paradise: April 2007

http://chasingparadise.blogspot.com/2007_04_01_archive.html

Diary of an Australian girl's adventure in the Netherlands. Poems, short stories, pictures and anecdotes. Tuesday, April 24, 2007. I'm no photographer and I certainly don't have what they call an artistic. But this is some of what I saw. Borough Market - a cup of tea, cow's milk on the side and a fairy cupcake. Borough Market - stacks of impressive cheese at Neal's Yard Dairy. Borough Market - Vinopolis taught me the 10 flavours that go into Bombay Sapphire gin. Fish, but still reminded me of home! Chasing Paradise: November 2006

http://chasingparadise.blogspot.com/2006_11_01_archive.html

Diary of an Australian girl's adventure in the Netherlands. Poems, short stories, pictures and anecdotes. Thursday, November 30, 2006. And I've written my first novel! It is 2.41am on Wednesday 30 November and I've written a book in 30 days. Oh, it's rubbish, absolute rubbish and 50000 words. Exactly. But at least I can tell my kids that I wrote my first novel at 31 years of age. And that it's never too late. I'm going to start a 'real' novel on 1 January. (What a nice new year's resolution! Various - th...

http://chasingparadise.blogspot.com/2007_03_01_archive.html

Diary of an Australian girl's adventure in the Netherlands. Poems, short stories, pictures and anecdotes. Sunday, March 25, 2007. A bit out of Dutch. These last two days I've spent about 10 hours speaking Dutch. Yesterday I spent a morning at Ed's nephew Nick's 6th birthday party where all the guests spoke Dutch. Are you not married or are you divorced? But later on this week, I'll get back into the swing of things, back to attempting to become a Dutchified version of me. Monday, March 12, 2007. So, unti...
