BlackRabbit Blades: What Makes a Knife a Knife?
http://obsidianrabbit.blogspot.com/2009/07/what-makes-knife-knife.html
Tuesday, July 7, 2009. What Makes a Knife a Knife? As you (the reader of this blog) may be aware, I have been following The Suburban Bushwacker for some time now and recently made him a knife to review. Well this isn't a link to the review (that's to come later) but I'd like to share this informative article. He's written on buying the right knife. Photo Credit: Todd Hill - Primitive Point. Do you ever make any period knives, 18th century knives? Http:/ woodsrunnersdiary.blogspot.com. Heat Treatment Temp...
BlackRabbit Blades: The Tree Project
http://obsidianrabbit.blogspot.com/2009/06/tree-project.html
Tuesday, June 23, 2009. I found this link. That said, I went to the scrapyard yesterday and bought some bronze rod to have a go with. I'll post again later with the results. The Australian Blacksmiths Association (Victoria) Inc. is asking blacksmiths worldwide to help us create a forged gumtree. This tree will be a memorial to the people who lost their lives in the 7 Feb bushfires, to honour the tireless people who defended others and to stand as a symbol of regeneration for the community". Make a Blade ...
BlackRabbit Blades: Forges and Fire: Part 1
http://obsidianrabbit.blogspot.com/2009/05/forges-and-fire-part-1.html
Saturday, June 27, 2009. Forges and Fire: Part 1. I started this forge about 2 months ago with firebricks and refractory cement I purchased from Consolidated Refractories. It’s basically 2 heavy firebricks with a chamber of light firebricks built around them. I’ve cut down some of the bricks with a hacksaw to give me the chamber space I was after and to provide a ‘doorway’ in the front for the material to pass through. A hole has been hollowed out of the side with a blunt chisel to allow for a gas torch.
American Bushman: April 2006
http://americanbushman.blogspot.com/2006_04_01_archive.html
If you would not be forgotten as soon as you are dead, either write things worth reading or do things worth writing.". Saturday, April 29, 2006. New Hilleberg 5 XP Tarp. Got a Hilleberg 5 XP in yesterday's mail. From reading the specs on Moontrail's website. Packs down SMALL and compresses even further. Green color easier to blend in to surroundings. Comes with guylines already attached. 18 oz for almost 5 feet X 11.5 feet (1.45m X 3.5m). Sil-polyester feels nice and sturdy. Overall I'm pleased with my p...

If you would not be forgotten as soon as you are dead, either write things worth reading or do things worth writing.". Thursday, August 31, 2006. PSKs often include several small items (i.e. fish hooks, safety pins, needles, etc.) which can easily be lost in the woods when the kit is opened. There are a few ways to deal with this problem. First, you can find yourself a small vial or other container in which to place these small items. That will also give you all kinds of extra room for other essentials.
American Bushman: September 2006
http://americanbushman.blogspot.com/2006_09_01_archive.html
If you would not be forgotten as soon as you are dead, either write things worth reading or do things worth writing.". Saturday, September 30, 2006. I got to spend most of my day in the woods yesterday. Actually, I explored some familiar ground in the morning and new ground in the afternoon. It wasn't the best time of year to harvest berries but the mushrooms are out in large numbers this time of year. If I knew more about which were edible and which were not I could have harvested armloads yesterday.
American Bushman: October 2006

If you would not be forgotten as soon as you are dead, either write things worth reading or do things worth writing.". Tuesday, October 31, 2006. Holy cow is this a tough knife! Paul Bos Heat Treat. Here's a thread on Bladeforums. Where I've been testing this knife for over a year. Posted by American Bushman @ 7:58 AM. Monday, October 30, 2006. The knife is held in a three-finger grip and I've tied a small lanyard to the back to give my pinky something to grab. Setup this way, the knife handles much ...

If you would not be forgotten as soon as you are dead, either write things worth reading or do things worth writing.". Monday, July 31, 2006. Not much in the way of outdoor time but LOTS of good stuff. See you here in a few hours (tomorrow) with some of the stories. Posted by American Bushman @ 10:51 PM. Thursday, July 27, 2006. I'm leaving early tomorrow morning for a few days in Denver, Colorado. I'll try to check in from the road but don't know if I'll get any updates posted. See you again on Tuesday.
BlackRabbit Blades: Timmmber!
http://obsidianrabbit.blogspot.com/2009/05/timmmber.html
Wednesday, June 10, 2009. Considering I'm not yet accepting payment for my work I've been trying to keep my costs down, so obtaining something for little or no charge is pretty appealing. With that in mind, about 8 weeks ago I put a post on WoodworkForums. Introducing myself as a relatively inexperienced knifemaker seeking timber offcuts for use in knife handles (or, my version of a stray dog dancing for scraps out the back of a restaurant). Andrews Family: Time!
http://bunky.blogspot.com/2012/02/time.html
We will use this to keep everyone updated on what Brendan, Madelyn and Benjamin have been up to. Thursday, February 02, 2012. How time flys. Today I registered Ben for 3 year old Pre-School. I can still remember when I registered both Brendan and Madelyn. Sad to see them both go but excited for them both at all the new opportunities for them to grow as little people. With Ben the feeling is completely different, I need the break! Posted by Jen Andrews. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

A blog dedicated to Outdoor Cooking. June 10, 2010. Coarse Kosher Salt/Sea Salt. Fresh ground black pepper. Asparagus is a vegetable I never appreciated growing up. It was always steamed and frequently overcooked leaving it wilted and void of color. However, just by changing the cooking method from steaming to grilling I have come to love this vegetable. May 25, 2010. 1/2 cup olive oil. 1/2 cup soy sauce. 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar. 1/2 teaspoon ginger, finely chopped. 15 teaspoons garlic powder.
