Building a House in Wicken. A diary of my attempts to build a new house in Wicken, Cambridgeshire. How hard can it be? Friday, 29 July 2011. Gates on, planting complete! After a herculean effort with the Hammerite all of the gates are now up and looking good, and we've pretty much completed the planting for the summer. Building a House in Wicken. A diary of my attempts to build a new house in Wicken, Cambridgeshire. How hard can it be? Monday, 30 March 2009. Day 153 - Plaster Complete. The new plaster work is all complete now and we've made a start on the huge job of painting. We're using a microporous paint - Dulux Supermatt - that allows the new plaster to breath and continue to dry even after it has been painted. The second fix carpentry is also underway with the door architrave and doors themselves being put up.
