Sunday, November 2, 2014. This is another painting from the Patuxent Wildlife Research Center. The three geese in the painting were following a larger flock, and it seemed to me that they were late for something. Saturday, August 24, 2013. Autumn on the Canal, step 7. I worked my way into the foreground, basically just refining areas. The reddish tree I made a little brighter and a little shorter and on the far right I added a deep shadow which I felt the painting needed for balance. In the foreground grass, I added a few highlights and shadows to define the area more. Where I accentuated some of the trees, I painted corresponding reflections in the water near the towpath. Friday, February 28, 2014. Azalea Park, Step 9. This final step is where I start to tweak areas that bother me. Mainly I look at shapes and where my eye goes. I'll walk away from the painting and come back and take a look. If my eye goes to a place that I don't want it to go, then I know that's a problem area. The lesson I learned here is, don't put a green tractor in a green landscape. I painted this to learn how to put a landscape background around larger center of interest. Friday, October 27, 2017. Great-Grandma's Chair, Finished! The final finishing touches. I have glazed the shadows of the quilt with a thin coat of ivory black to add drama.
