Bare Foot Horse

Getting Along with Horses. Most of the problems we see in the hooves of domestic horses are related to flaring of the hoof wall. Is due to flaring which allows the coffin bone to settle down and bruise the sole corium;. Is essentially a flare, most often a forward toe flare;. Are due to a forward-flared toe;. Is related to a forward-flared toe causing the foot to land toe-first. What is a flare? When you look at the sole of a flared foot, the white line beside the flare is dirty or makes a groove between...

Getting Along with Horses. Photo Gallery, Part 2. A foot with stretched white line (flare) around the toe. Note the corners in the wall on each side of the toe. These will cause a toe crack if they are not removed. My line at the edge of the sole shows how far we would round-in (not cut off), to help the white line tighten up as the hoof wall grows. When the wall is rounded-in to my line shown above, the toe will look like this. The toe underneath, indicated by the lower line; this will help the toe back...

Getting Along with Horses. Trimming Tools and Their Care. Trimming feet is hard work for most women. You will find it frustrating and exhausting with dull tools; rewarding and satisfying with sharp ones. The basic tools are the hoofpick, rasp, knife, and sharpening stick. You also need gloves and leather chaps or farrier's apron. If you are dealing with flares, a hoofstand is a big help. For people living in the desert, a Dremel tool trims rock-hard hooves. As a small, not-very-strong woman, I don't put ...

Getting Along with Horses. Photo Gallery part 1. Readers have asked to see examples of different hooves, with my comments, so they can learn more about hoof balance and how to deal with various difficulties. I will add photos as I receive interesting ones via email. They are numbered so you can refer to them when asking me questions, for example, My horse's hind feet have a long toe like the one in Photo Gallery #3. An extremely flared toe, with white line separation starting way up near the coronet....

Me, Mira, and the Racehorse Dude. A place for my friends and relatives to catch up with news of my life, see pictures of my horses, aka The Spoiled Ones, and read my latest wacky ideas about whatever. Monday, February 16, 2009. We sure did get a lot of snow with that last storm. At least 4 inches, but probably more like 6. For our area, that is a very heavy snow. It has turned back to intermittent downpours now, but the snow was so beautiful! I am trying more and more different recipes and ways of prepar...

Me, Mira, and the Racehorse Dude. A place for my friends and relatives to catch up with news of my life, see pictures of my horses, aka The Spoiled Ones, and read my latest wacky ideas about whatever. Sunday, June 7, 2009. Hi everyone, just a little update to let you know we're fine. TONS going on lately, but most of it is good and I just haven't had time to post anything lately. Hopefully soon I'll have a free hour and a half or so to upload photos of the horses and do a real update!

As it began to pour! It is still quite cloudy and I am. Hoping it rains more tonight, so I think I'll leave Andolu out of the round pen so he can get to the shelter. It's almost been four months anyway, so I doubt the vet would be very upset. Friday, September 26, 2008. Nice to f...

Chloe, the Pony Who Wouldn't: April 2015

http://chloetheponywhowouldnt.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

Chloe, the Pony Who Wouldn't. An account of what happened to one horse owner who read Imke Spilker and how it unraveled everything she thought she knew but gave her something better in its place. And a little bit about hoof-trimming. The opinions expressed in previous entries may or may not express the current opinion of the author. Tuesday, April 21, 2015. Second and Third Rides. Here's a convoluted anecdote which sort of expresses how this loom-large aspect can distort one's view of reality:. With Brid...

My Journey: ?Something Different?

http://myjourneycarefreegirl.blogspot.com/2008/08/bently-in-beginning.html

Thursday, August 28, 2008. When I purchased Spirit, the people I bought him from said that they had done some Parelli work with him. I of course did not know what Parelli was, and so I researched it out a little. What I found out was that it seemed like it was a mostly western horse program of training, and so it did not interest me that much at the time, seeing as I enjoy riding English. However I do have the philosophy that you can learn something from everyone whether good or bad.

mekanaranch: That Was Fast

http://mekanaranch.blogspot.com/2007/08/that-was-fast.html

Wednesday, August 1, 2007. I can't believe how fast they shipped it to me. It was pretty easy and quick to assemble too. My sand footing has been delivered! The guy dumped it in two long strips in the center of the round pen. We spread most of it (pretty evenly, too) with 2 shovels, 2 rakes, and 3 manure forks (the manure forks were manned by the kids). If I can move at all tomorrow, we'll finish the last tiny bit. It has kind of just blown me away. LOL. August 2, 2007 at 6:02 PM. Oh, my post worked!

mekanaranch: May 2007

http://mekanaranch.blogspot.com/2007_05_01_archive.html

Monday, May 28, 2007. Shearing was a challenge this year. Something is wrong with my clippers. Got the two girls done pretty fast, but I had to shear 1/3 of the wether with a pair of scissors. He looks like a badly groomed poodle with tufts sticking out here and there, and fluffy legs. In hind sight, I really should have taken pictures to laugh at later. But it was really frustrating, and by the end, I just wanted to get done and have a drink! Be amazingly inexpensive around these parts! The wind is play...

Bare Foot Horse

Getting Along with Horses. Due to the damage that horseshoes cause to the equine hoof, even with timely resets, many thousands of horse owners since 2000 have removed the shoes from their horses and learned to trim the hooves in a way that keeps the horse sound. The barefoot trim is frequently and successfully used to rehabilitate foundered and "navicular" horses, as well as to get hooves in top condition for endurance racing and other demanding equine sports.
