The Baseball Desert

Monday, February 16, 2009. It doesn't take a genius to see that this site has been on life support for more time that I care to mention: 40 posts in the past year - including 12 in the month of October and none since November 4th - is not the stuff of which blogging legends are made. Well, today I'm finally switching off the machine and declaring The Baseball Desert clinically dead. Posted by Iain at 19:44. Tuesday, November 04, 2008. For the love of God, don't **** this one up:. The Baseball Desert: Crystal bollocks

http://baseballdesert.blogspot.com/2008/10/crystal-bollocks.html

Saturday, October 11, 2008. I look at the image above and see eggs; Dan Shaughnessy looks at it and sees chickens, all fully hatched. I know I should be celebrating and focusing on all the positives of winning Game 1 at the Trop, but minor jet-lag and major fatigue have got me all grumpy this morning , and Shaughnessy's smug piece of pseudo-journalism just pushed the wrong buttons. Hopefully I'll be back later, this time with my happy face on. Posted by Iain at 12:21.

The Baseball Desert: Day of reckoning

http://baseballdesert.blogspot.com/2008/11/day-of-reckoning.html

Tuesday, November 04, 2008. Those who come here regularly will know - and those who don't can guess from the name - that this is primarily a baseball blog. I don't do any of life's really major subjects (religion, politics, .). However, today I'm going to make an exception and do both in one very short post:. For the love of God, don't fuck this one up:. Posted by Iain at 12:16. Random musings on the summer game, from an English baseball fan living in France.

The Baseball Desert: (Don't Fear) The Reaper

http://baseballdesert.blogspot.com/2008/10/dont-fear-reaper.html

Friday, October 17, 2008. Don't Fear) The Reaper. So it appears there will indeed be more cowbell. Saturday night at the Trop. I almost gave up on this game, at around 3.30am, with the Rays up 5-0 and a huge 9am meeting looming large, but I'm glad I didn't, as I got to see nothing less than the second-biggest comeback in postseason history. That's why they play the games, folks - it ain't ever over until it's over. Posted by Iain at 12:20.

The Baseball Desert: Baseball, the Internet & me (Part IV)

http://baseballdesert.blogspot.com/2003/11/baseball-internet-me-part-iv.html

Friday, November 21, 2003. Baseball, the Internet and me (Part IV). I think it’s in the movie Major League. Where the manager of the hopeless Cleveland Indians gathers his players together in the locker room to give them a lecture about the game of baseball, and at one point he says this: It’s a simple game - you throw the ball, you hit the ball, you catch the ball [. It's actually in the movie Bull Durham. Thanks to Matt at Just Another Mariners Blog. For setting the record straight. Posted by Iain at 1...

The Baseball Desert: He said, he said

http://baseballdesert.blogspot.com/2008/10/he-said-he-said.html

Sunday, October 12, 2008. He said, he said. You know, we had no business even being in the 11th inning. Josh Beckett - Commander Kick-Ass himself - gave up 8 earned runs in 4 1/3 innings. It's a miracle we even made it that far. Tired, Grumpy, Been-Up-All-Night, Saw-This-Coming-A-Mile-Off Iain. Hey, go take your cheery, it's-October-baseball disposition and stick it where the sun don't shine. The Sox showed great character to claw their way back - they never gave up. What do I get? ACME Inc: Last chance saloon

http://acme-inc.blogspot.com/2010/05/last-change-saloon.html

Gluttony is a sin. So call me a sinner. Especially when it comes to sport, media and other obsessions. Random observations on these and other life or death topics. Tuesday, May 11, 2010. David Ortiz's struggles were well documented in 2009, both on this blog. And in mainstream press. The normally restrained Boston press has now of course started with their campaign again after Big Papi's poor start to this season. Whilst it's a small sample, his May so far reads much happier;. If he can continue this for...

ACME Inc: Parity or moneybags?

http://acme-inc.blogspot.com/2011/08/parity-or-moneybags.html

Gluttony is a sin. So call me a sinner. Especially when it comes to sport, media and other obsessions. Random observations on these and other life or death topics. Thursday, August 11, 2011. Former NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue made the word “parity” into a mantra, while fans of European football are normally realistic enough to admit that before a single ball has been kicked in anger only a handful of teams will in earnest compete for the title. Green Bay, the only top league team in the world owned c...

Gluttony is a sin. So call me a sinner. Especially when it comes to sport, media and other obsessions. Random observations on these and other life or death topics. Wednesday, January 07, 2009. New Year, New Hope. New year always brings a sense of a clean slate and a brighter and more focused, albeit sometimes short-lived, outlook on life and its possibilities. Many of us enter each new year with new personal goals and/or milestones ahead of us:. We exercise more, we tighten our. Glorious are the days of ...

Gluttony is a sin. So call me a sinner. Especially when it comes to sport, media and other obsessions. Random observations on these and other life or death topics. Sunday, April 04, 2010. Now that we're well into year '10 instead of '09, we can look forward to yet another opportunity of a fresh start. As I wrote about a year ago. Brian Cashman then decided enough was enough, kept his talent while spending wisely on the high price agents available, such as Mark Teixeira (surely $10m would not have hurt Mr...

Ukewarm Niners (picture of Alex Smith from sfgate.com). And a pretty ice cold Liverpool. That's probably an accurate snapshot of the current sports situation for Mr.N personally. What's more interesting is, as Peter Gammons mentions in. Ortiz's rapidly declining skills, Lowell's health concerns and possibly another s...

Sunday, March 30, 2008. The following is the transcript of Red Sox Manager Terry Francona's controversial remarks after the "Iceberg Classic" on November 20th, 2008.). You're asking me if it was "special? Yeah, it was special. The whole damn season was special. First, there was the trip to Japan. That was great. Papelbon. Bosox Injections: The Return of the Schill

Tuesday, July 1, 2008. The Return of the Schill. The following was originally published in the Boston Globe, on October 25th, 2008.). Forget about the Bloody Sock. Curt Schilling has a new legacy. When Schilling had surgery on June 23, it appeared likely that his career was over. Even the most optimistic estimates had him at least a year away from a possible return to the MLB level.
