The Shredded Man Card: July 2014
http://shreddedmancard.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
The Shredded Man Card. Wednesday, July 23, 2014. Mount of the Holy Cross. Holy Cross is a fairly long hike, about 12 miles round trip with about 5600 feet of elevation gain. The kicker for this particular route, though, is that about a mile and a half in, you must descend to a creek at the bottom of a valley 1000 feet below you, which means that on the way back, you have to reclimb that 1000 feet to get back to the trail head. I started following some other hikers, and it really wasn't too long before I ...

The Shredded Man Card: Mt. Princeton - I Wanna Rock!!
http://shreddedmancard.blogspot.com/2015/08/mt-princeton-i-wanna-rock.html
The Shredded Man Card. Wednesday, August 12, 2015. Mt Princeton - I Wanna Rock! The beginning of this trail was very well worn and not too rocky yet. Princeton is off to the right of this picture and is still a couple miles away. It wasn't long before the route got much rockier. There were frequent cairns down this low, but a fair amount of loose rock we had to walk across and it was pretty slow going. This picture shows the terrain next to and above the trail as we skirted across Tigger Peak. While we w...

The Shredded Man Card: June 2012

The Shredded Man Card. Sunday, June 17, 2012. How I Spent My Father's Day. Insert obligatory "It has been awhile since I posted" post here). Honestly, though, I haven't felt all that inspired to write more than a one or two sentence update on Facebook in quite awhile. However, today is Father's day, and the inspiration has hit hard. If you'd like to see why it is great to be the dad in my household, keep reading. We got home and I layed down on the couch, which proceeded to swallow me and force me to tak...

The Shredded Man Card: August 2015
http://shreddedmancard.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
The Shredded Man Card. Tuesday, August 25, 2015. Pictured above (taken from across the valley on Mt. Elbert). The alpenglow on the surrounding peaks is always one of my favorite parts of these hikes, and it was there again today. This formation was off to the south just beyond the trail head. And this was 13,852 foot Mt. Oklahoma to our north. Over a mile in, we came to the trail junction that would begin our trek up much steeper terrain. We climbed up this boulder field first. Opposite this view, we had...

The Shredded Man Card: September 2013
http://shreddedmancard.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
The Shredded Man Card. Sunday, September 8, 2013. Before I get into the details, I want to apologize for the quality of some of the pictures, as I didn't want to drag my good camera up that trail so I had to use my camera phone. Actually I'm not apologizing, just warning you. ;). We got on the trail about 3:15 in the morning. One thing (the only thing? Shortly after sunrise, Long's Peak came into view. And this is from the top:. Finally, the last stage before the summit is "the homestretch". Everyone...

The Shredded Man Card: Mt. Yale - Afternoon Delight
http://shreddedmancard.blogspot.com/2015/07/mt-yale-afternoon-delight.html
The Shredded Man Card. Monday, July 27, 2015. Mt Yale - Afternoon Delight. I got to thinking (which is rarely a good thing), if I got out early enough on Saturday, I bet I could hit an easier single peak Saturday afternoon (assuming the weather would hold) and then still hit Shav and Tab on Sunday. Three peaks! Mt Yale looked to be just the right one, at 9.5 miles, 4300 feet of gain, and a paved road to the trail head. That would be a good one to hit on Saturday. Game on. After making its way up through ...

The Shredded Man Card: May 2015
http://shreddedmancard.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
The Shredded Man Card. Sunday, May 31, 2015. 100 Burpees a Day for a Year. In March of 2014, I came upon this blog post by Ross Enamait. Amazing, wasn't it? I wish I had kept a better record of this past year like Nikki did, but unfortunately I didn't, so I'm left to reflect on what I remember over the past 365 days. Here are some things that stick out in my mind:. I knew there would be some luck involved around being sick. People asked what if I had to miss a day? Would I just make them up later? In sum...
