Knitting socks, all the time. Monday, May 16, 2011. Two packages arrived today, full of good stuff. First package was a book I ordered from Yes Asia in Hong Kong - a sock book, but not just a sock book, a sock book in Japanese: Hand-Knitted Socks 手編みのソックス by Toshiyuki Shimada 嶋田俊之. This book is for a Sock Summit class called Explore Shimada's Socks. I plan to translate at least part of it; my Japanese has gotten pretty rusty so this will be good practice. 8226; a tea mug sporting the Unique Sheep logo.

Knitting socks, all the time. Friday, June 5, 2009. Do Hobbits need socks? Well, maybe if the weather gets really cold. But I don't think it snows much in the Shire. The real question is, do Hobbits want to knit socks? And the answer must be a resounding Yes. Because knitting socks is fun, interesting, soothing, colorful, satisfying, occasionally frustrating, obsessive, and sometimes you just gotta do something with your hands. And modern Hobbits do not have pipes to mess around with. Blogs I like to read.

Knitting socks, all the time. Friday, April 1, 2011. They do, big time. All that overpriced yarn in bizarre colors and weird fibers, all those itty-bitty needles and fiddly patterns with confusing directions, knitting endlessly around and around and then you have to do it all over again. Don't even get me started on the Kitchener stitch. Besides, I hear you can buy plain cotton socks really cheap at Walmart. No more knitting socks for me. So what else is there to knit? Knitting socks, all the time. Tuesday, February 23, 2010. I'm having mixed success in the 2010 Ravelympics. The rules said to Challenge Yourself. And I figured the December kit from the Lord of the Strings Sock Club would fit the bill, with its elaborate colorwork and charts. Sigh. First off I couldn't manage to knit at the specified gauge (11 sts/inch! So even the smallest size was too big for me. Rip. Then I decided to modify the pattern with fewer stitches. It should go faster, right?
