Texas Route 66

http://beckyhyatttexas.blogspot.com/2009/06/blog-post_1645.html

June 2009 Road Trip. A railroad trestle that been out of use a long, long time. Another one of Nathan's nature shots. Well, when you gotta go you gotta go. The sun sets on another day. I wonder who lived in this house and what they did. This was once a motel. Glenrio, Texas. This motel is right on the Texas/New Mexico border. The sign states this motel is the "First motel in Texas" on one side and "Last motel in Texas" on the other side. This place has also seen better days. Where do you want to go?

June 2009 Road Trip. The sun is going down on another day in Texas. On the road again. This time on 66 as it is now the frontage road along the interstate. Unfortunately we arrived too late to get anything to eat (the food was highly recommended! But the owners were still there and opened it up so we could look around inside. Maybe we can visit on the way back home. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Click on each state for more photos. Where do you want to go?

Texas Route 66

June 2009 Road Trip. I have to tell this story. I was tired of the gum I was chewing and I decided to do what I really don't like for others to do and throw it out the window. It went out the window, had a little bit of hang time, did a somersault, and popped right back inside to land on Nathan. That'll teach me to do something I'm not supposed to do! A house that has met the same fate. And as it looked many, many years ago. The same for the station. Vega Motel, vintage and restored. But it's a DRY heat.

Route 66 ...... Home

http://arizonatoblountsville.blogspot.com/2009/07/blog-post_07.html

Route 66 . Home. We finally made it home about midnight, exhausted and I asked myself did I really do this trip? Sadly, it was over. In Arkansas, this RV didn't make it and I certainly hope the passengers were ok. Traffic was backed up for miles. Had a big o' cheeseburger here. The old cars were visitors who were traveling Route 66, and not part of the display. An original piece of old 66 pavement in the museum. As if he's saying, "And just what are you looking at? But oh so good. As was this one. Click ...

Route 66 ...... Home

http://arizonatoblountsville.blogspot.com/2009/07/blog-post_05.html

Route 66 . Home. The Painted Desert Inn built in 1937-1940. It closed in 1963 and demolition was scheduled in the 1970's. This was protested and then it was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1987. It reopened as a museum in 2006. The Painted Desert. We weren't there at the right time to capture the light to show the best colors. It was named this because it looks like the colors of a sunset. The Native Indians lived here for a few hundred years and then vanished. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Illinois Route 66

http://beckyhyattillinois.blogspot.com/2009/06/ramps-near-old-filling-station-were.html

June 2009 Road Trip. The ramps near an old 'filling station' were left here a long time ago. They are embedded in the side of the tree trunk. The ramps were here first and the tree grew up between them. I do believe they've been sittin' a while. And another dead end. Nathan with an Illinois shield and fighting the wind. A small pond with white caps. A looming thunderstorm ahead. The wind was incredible. Well, maybe just wishful thinking. Leaving Springfield and the Lauderbach Giant.

Illinois Route 66

http://beckyhyattillinois.blogspot.com/2009/06/lincoln-tomb.html

June 2009 Road Trip. The House of Representatives where Lincoln lay in state. The court room in the old court house. The Lincoln law office. Several blocks around the Lincoln home have been preserved as they were during Lincoln's time there. Definitely worth visiting. The train station burned recently so this building is a replica but these orginal steps were found under a part of the building that had been built above the older one. Lincoln walked on them? There was an eerie feeling here.

June 2009 Road Trip. Happy and sad at the same time as we finally reached our destination. Beverly Hills. Just passing through but we will return the next day. The Formosa Cafe where the stars ate, and still do. In the background is the Warner Hollywood Studio. I wanted to stop here to eat but again time wouldn't allow it. Elvis ate here too. :). Click on the link to read the history of the cafe. It's interesting. Http:/ www.seeing-stars.com/Dine2/Formosa.shtml. I'm beginning to feel jittery now. Foothil...

June 2009 Road Trip. Erick, Oklahoma is home to Roger Miller (King of the Road) and Sheb Wooley (Purple People Eater). This place is almost a ghost town. My view of the same courthouse. Screen shot from the Grapes of Wrath as the Joads pass by the Sayre Oklahoma courthouse. A mural and a little bar. Very good museum here too. Lucille's gas station closed since her passing in 2005. Lucille's Roadhouse is open just up the road with great food. March 8, 2011 at 8:26 PM. December 27, 2012 at 8:49 PM. Whats u...

Kansas Route 66

June 2009 Road Trip. After a very scenic 13 miles and I don't think we are in Kansas anymore. We ate lunch at this very good little place in Baxter Springs, Kansas. It occupies the former bank building that was once robbed by Jesse James in 1876. A sign for a really neat bridge. Galena, first town in Kansas and we see 'Tow Tater' which was the inspiration for 'Tow Mater' in the movie, Cars. It runs and looks just as it did when the moviemakers saw it. Missouri Route 66

June 2009 Road Trip. A still very much in business drive-in theater. There were ruins of many more along the way. This is a replica of an old gas station that was built to honor the builder's wife in Paris Springs, MO. There are many, many vacant and abandoned structures that were once motels, gas stations, and stores. Long gone, nothing but ghosts there now. A very nice leisurely drive in western Missouri and I have the road to myself for now. And another mural. They certainly were plentiful. Rain turne...

From miniatures to metaphors. The Year of the Super Kitchen. 2017) In Contrast to Surrealist artist, Rene Magritte's floating green apples that came to symbolize the tension between the hidden and the visible, in this piece a red apple is used to represent the hidden feminine. To emphasize the subconscious nature of the feminine, it is. Inside a lace covered drawer. The dark red interior mimics the apple and further serves to camouflage it. The Year of the Super Kitchen.
