beneath arranged leaves: the end has no end

http://www.beneatharrangedleaves.blogspot.com/2009/04/end-has-no-end.html

A different shade, a completely different hue. Friday, April 24, 2009. The end has no end. This is where we started and this is where we ended; we've been gone a long time but have been here for a short time; the weather is significantly more pleasant now than it was when we got here.". Saying goodbye at the end of the station part of the night was the saddest part, because so many things need to happen before I see most of those people again. SO many things. Paul, San Rafael, CA. A different shade, a completely different hue. Monday, April 13, 2009. Spring has finally arrived! This is the last week of class. Finally. But also a little sad. The cherry blossoms have already passed their peak, and now there is "sakura yuki" or cherry blossom petal snow everywhere. Ah! The fleetingness of the seasons! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). http://www.beneatharrangedleaves.blogspot.com/2009/03/spring-field-trip.html

A different shade, a completely different hue. Monday, March 9, 2009. Well, the spring field trip turned out to be more fun than I thought it would. I knew the things we would be doing would be fun, such as:. A cool old shrine. A river boat ride. A cooler but more anticlimactic old shrine. Here are some photos. It's the same ocean. I built a rock pile. These rocks are married. The next big adventure: Korea. March 12, 2009 at 11:41 AM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). I'm thinking about nothing.

A different shade, a completely different hue. Thursday, May 7, 2009. Taiwan: touch your heart. Taipei was two great Mexicans, 5 night markets, being surprised at everything, Taipei 101 - the (second) tallest building in the world - being able to read but not speak, new piercings, a visit to the city of Jiufen, and welcoming Jason B. to the country. The view from the top of the mountain next to Jiufen. Also - if you are reading this and know anything at all about Taiwan's economy, please comment!

of the sands and the cliffs: October 2008

http://sandsandcliffs.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html

Of the sands and the cliffs. A year in jerusalem. Friday, October 31, 2008. This is Halloween, Halloween, Halloween. Well, Halloween in Jerusalem is pretty much like any other night, except when you're at HUC! The planning process was fairly easy; we sent out some e-mails, came up with a theme (Halloween! Let's compare again) process, but strangely fulfilling. We also made handmade decorations - ghosts, pumpkins, a Happy Halloween sign, and Ari carved a Jack O'Lantern out of a melon. All in all, it was a...

Of the sands and the cliffs. A year in jerusalem. Monday, August 25, 2008. In what might be the last post before my post-Ulpan pre-Semester break (during which I'll be backpacking for 7 days in the Golan and Galilee), I'm not sure really what to post, because there hasn't been anything amazingly noteworthy, just a series of very cool events. So, here goes. Lisa, Jim, Jason. Ari, Jaclyn, Lisa, Jim. I think there was some confusion about where people should have been looking for this picture.). Tomorrow (T...

Of the sands and the cliffs. A year in jerusalem. Saturday, June 20, 2009. Re-entry: top hat stories. It’s really anecdotes, stories, funny moments, that really embody the experience. But telling them is often difficult. I’m well aware of the irony that by explaining what a top hat story is, I have to tell a top hat story.). Monday, June 15, 2009. Re-entry: rip van winkling. Tuesday, June 9, 2009. And in the end, there's a beginning. As I was furiously, madly packing tonight (this morning? I've reached a...

Of the sands and the cliffs. A year in jerusalem. Wednesday, February 25, 2009. In order to enjoy one of the most important American traditions, Oscar Night – my equivalent of the Super Bowl – a lot of planning needed to occur. There’s an episode of How I Met Your Mother. I thought the ceremony itself was good; Hugh Jackman did a fine job. I was mostly pleased with the winners – I’ve only seen very few of the nominated films; Slumdog. Saturday, February 21, 2009. I'd learned about it in my archeology of cities course my 4th year at UCLA, but not really in great depth. But it's amazing! Angkor Wat is really a misnomer, it's really the temples and cities, spread out over many kilometers, of Angkor - Angkor Wat is the biggest and most central Temple; it's the biggest religious building in the world. Of the sands and the cliffs. A year in jerusalem. Sunday, March 29, 2009. We then went on a beautiful, steep hike overlooking the Ramon Crater (the largest geologically formed crater in the world) and headed to a five-star Bedouin tent for the evening. Gavin, Luanne, and I (the three ED students) led Mincha (afternoon) service that day. We wanted it to be a contemplative, reflective service, and I think we reached our goal. Of the sands and the cliffs. A year in jerusalem. Sunday, December 28, 2008. Wholesome Update from the Holy Land. I'm writing to give you a brief update of events in Israel. For those of you who have been following the news this weekend, you've probably seen that, in response to the Qassam rocketing coming out of Gaza the last few weeks, the Israeli military initiated a huge military response on Hamas institutions in Gaza (see how careful I was in my phrasing? http://sandsandcliffs.blogspot.com/2009/06/back-in-bagnkok.html

Of the sands and the cliffs. A year in jerusalem. Friday, June 5, 2009. We cooked all day. We made our own curry paste, totally from scratch. We made curry and stir-fry chicken and basil, different types of soups, stir fry noodles, spring rolls, desserts (mango and sticky rice; bananas in coconut milk). It was all tasty and fun and easy (if you have the right ingredients) and they gave us recipes so we can recreate them back in the states. I look forward to seeing you in Israel or back in the states!

Beneath An October Sky

Monday, January 31, 2011. He's handsome and handy! Over the winter break I decided what I really needed in our master bedroom was built in bookshelves. I have a serious book addiction and now the boys are following suit. We just LIKE print media! Anyways, I showed Jason this beautiful spot that would be perfect for built in bookshevles. And this is what he made me! Isn't he the best? Links to this post. Sunday, January 23, 2011. There's a new blogger in town! Links to this post. Sunday, August 29, 2010.

Beneath a Quilted Sky. A novel set in Northeastern Minnesota 1949-63. Chapter Three: The Dog Not in the Manger. Chapter three of my in-progress novel. At 2:00 am Clair had the old man’s great awakening, the need to pee. His father joked that he wanted to live where he could piss off the back porch, which may explain how the man came to own this poor but isolated farmland. Clair would not do it often, but tonight he would exercise the privilege, despite lacking a porch. Do you chase deer? He dressed, foun...
