Saturday, January 21, 2012. Yes it's been a long time since a post, but oh well. I'm sitting at the Looney Bean and I might as well do it now. I have been doing a ton of stuff this year, mostly related to route setting at competitions, but now I finally get some climbing time and what better place to spend it than my favorite bouldering area. BISHOP! Xaviers Roof. First problem after our warm up. Boyko flashed like a monster. I did it in three goes. Joel Zerr should have some video up soon.

ALBINO RHINO: December 2010

Tuesday, December 7, 2010. A month ago I embarked on a long trip to The Red River Gorge. The Red has to be the sport climbing capital of the U.S.A. The concentration of routes in all grades is staggering and the potential for development of new lines is even more mind blowing. It is a sand stone paradise. Thank you to all the awesome people I met at the Zachariah house and peace to The Red River Gorge. Mark my words……I will be back. Enjoy some shots from the end of the trip. Gotta love the Ale 8 1. ALBINO RHINO: March 2011
http://www.bretjohnston.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
Thursday, March 17, 2011. In my video class another one of our assignments was to pick a scene out of a movie and recreate it to the best of our abilities. It is very tricky to find just the right clip to choose because most movies out there our course have very high budgets which means very complicated camera work and special effects. This means we had to pick something along the lines of a student budget worthy clip. This a clip from the British zombie spoof "Shaun of the Dead". Posted by Bret Johnston.

It might be sno wy, but it's still about 50 degrees out. My favorite thing about the Buttermilks aside from the view. Is the size of the boulders: even some of the warmups and eas ier problems are extremely tall. T he beautiful north face of the Grandma Pea body b oulder. Is probably about 40 feet tall. I didn't know Dean Potter. I've only been to Yosemite Valley a few times so I'm completely disconnected from the climbing culture and from the climbers who frequent the Valley. Dean Potter and Graham Hunt recently died BASE jumping (that's parachute jumping from B. Pans [bridges] and E. Strictly speaking, yes. Miscalculations? I've written about risk before and about how it relates to climbing. Dean Potter is well-known as a daredevil. Or, it seems, an employee of the National Park System. This link.

I throw down some 'push muscle' opposition workouts on the gymnastic rings now and again and I go scrabble around in the mountains and get scared. I still love climbing, but it's in a state of relative dormancy right now for me. Either that or I'm lovingly crafting an intricate excuse for simple laziness. Maybe both, who knows. On our attempts, I certainly experienced said nervousness. The first trip out I hung on pieces on the first crux, dizzy with near vertigo and unable to focus. "Take!

Should explain it succinctly enough. I've decided to revisit a revised version of this post here on my blog. The point here is that the banter on the thread in question obfuscates an important consideration: as climbers to what extent is it acceptable to remove vegetation such as trees as a convenience to our user group? Making these arguments often provokes accusations of elitism; isn't it elitist to suggest that it's OK if everything isn't accessible to anyone at any given time? Attempts at control tha...
