Friday, 24 July 2009. The Orphanage and Hospital. He’s probably the friendliest man I’ve ever met, and generous to a fault. We have found ourselves in the most incredible place here in Kpando! Around lunch time we took shelter from the heat inside our hut when Edem’s mum, who we’d never met before then, ducked in with a basket covered with a tea towel. When we opened it, we found it to contain our lunch – fried chicken, yam chips with ketchup and ice cold fanta! Journey to the Volta. Last days in Busua.

Saturday, 20 June 2009. Ghana’s form of mini-bus, the tro-tro, is the cheapest and easiest way of getting around, but not very comfortable. They have been fitted with as many seats as humanly possible (they carry 19 people in a vehicle not much bigger than a Ford transit van! However, the 30km trip to Takoradi cost us 70 pesewas, roughly 35 pence. Lunch back at Busua was a fresh pineapple on the balcony – as sweet and juicy a pineapple as I’ve ever had! I can’t wait to get back into a British autum...

Sunday, 5 July 2009. We’ve been warned that the track we walk to Dixcove every day might not be too safe for obruni, so we’ve been carrying everything in plastic bags and carrying nothing valuable. It’s about a 2km trek through tropical bushland, which gets incredibly hot. I’ve really enjoyed seeing all the butterflies, many of which we used to have in the Carty Tropical House! Sunday, 5 July 2009. This Week at Dixcove Hospital. I’ve had a really good week at the hospital this week because Dr. Frempong has got back from his holidays. Every day would start at 8am with rounds on the male ward, female ward, childrens ward and maternity ward, then end with an outpatients clinic. We’d see up to 60 patients a day – I have no idea how he does this on a permanent basis! Here are some photos of around the hospital:. PHOTOS 16 - 18]. Tuesday, 16 June 2009. First Day in Ghana. June – Accra. Woke up this morning to the sound of cockerels crowing and dogs howling. It is very hot and humid again, though our room is nice and cool – we’ve had to have the air conditioning going full blast to keep the room at 21 degrees! The Yoga Wall is a great tool in the use of yoga. I teach yoga wall classes twice weekly, as well as private classes to individuals or small groups at West End Yoga.
