Noel has been into action sports since watching the movie RAD at the theater (twice) back in 1986. He has taught skateboarding at summer camp, organized bike and skate events, operated a huge indoor park in GA, and even built his own setups to ride while serving in Iraq. He has advocated around the US. For city skateparks since 2000. A former Army officer, Noel works in the defense industry and resides with his family in Northern Virginia. Better Community Skateparks will convince the town of Vienna, VA to fund and build a multi-functional facility meeting BCS’s design and quality standards in order to provide Vienna residents a safe, enjoyable place to skate, ride, educate, and relax. Include this multi-functional plaza as part of the Community Center rebuild. Educate- wild life/ plant. Allocate 5% of overall budget ($4M = $200K). Exclude no one (bikes, scooters, etc.). Focus funding on obstacles, not creature comforts.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE SKATEPARK UNIVERSE:. The 90’s saw inline skating become extremely popular, and since then a new user group has emerged: scooters. This brings the number of groups actively using skateparks to four, but the term. Park , by virtue of skating being the first sport in line, has stuck and become an all-inclusive term for a facility anyone can enjoy. Compare it to how soccer, rugby and lacrosse teams all play on a football field. They damage the park! Designed by Cottage and Park.

The Vienna Park is our current project. The Vienna Community Center (VCC) Director hopes to include a skatepark as part of the coming VCC rebuild. This is not formalized, approved or funded yet but she brought up the idea during her August 18 presentation of the overall plan to the city council.
