Letters to Betty: April 9th, 1925

http://www.bettyletters.blogspot.com/2014/06/april-9th.html

April 9th, 1925. We are still on safari, skirting the mountains north of Nairobi now. Africa continues to be a multitude of unexpected beauty and challenges. I do believe Lord Covington has caught some illness or malady. He has become pale and sweaty, and decidedly unwell. Our guides have been every understanding, allowing him to take breaks and providing assistance for him. Covington, bless him, is soldiering on. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). April 9th, 1925. Letters to Betty: May 2014

http://www.bettyletters.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html

March 29th, 1925 Part 2. It is not difficult now. Indeed, as I stand feeling the ocean spray against the side of the ship, I feel at home. I know shortly we will arrive at Nairobi and my daydreams and the comfort of my cabin will be washed away, but there are moments on every journey where simply being in the moment is enough. I hope I will not forget this when I return. I am aware that I have not reported all that occurred in Cario, but I am finding it difficult to accept the rest of that tale. For ...

Letters to Betty: September 2013

http://www.bettyletters.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html

March 13th, 1925. My dear Betty,. The Memphis area is quite stunning. Saqqara holds a plethora of pyramids, and there is an incredible statue of Ramses II, an ancient Pharoah. Egypt is rapidly making me examine the mortality of man, not with our own small lives, but in the greatnesses that we can produce. It is humbling to think of these great structures built so very long ago. At any rate, this temple may be in use still, and the scrolls he spoke of included worship of Bast, the cat goddess. Covingt...

Letters to Betty: August 2013

http://www.bettyletters.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

February 20th, 1925. My dear Betty,. Its funny how sometimes life seems just the same no matter where you are. I did manage to talk Violet, Annie and Doctor Webber into Madame Toussard's which was as intriguing this time as it was the first. Annie seemed quite taken with the lifelikeness of the models and Doctor Webber seemed to enjoy it as well. Nothing of the sort happened, however, so perhaps the information Violet and Louis obtained was not accurate. Even my manners would be sorely tried by such....

Letters to Betty: March 31st, 1925

http://www.bettyletters.blogspot.com/2014/06/march-31st-1925.html

March 31st, 1925. I feel much better having gotten that off my chest. I don't know why I procrastinated so long in writing it. I am also re-reading the Black Rites, that which speaks of my new deity, Bast, although it really misses a lot of the nuances, now that I've been taught more. Doctor Webber and Violet have been reading the Liber Ivonis, and I gather not enjoying it as much. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). April 9th, 1925. April 7th, 1925. April 4th, 1925. Without A Stitch On: August 2015

http://withoutastitchon.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html

Thursday, August 13, 2015. Agent Peggy Carter Part 3: The Shirt. This has been… an adventure. I apologise for the lack of photos, but every time I was working on this it was a last minute thing, so I kept forgetting. It started well. The Simplicity 3688 pattern that I used for the suit included a 1940’s style shirt, so I looked at that and the reference shots and at least figured that I could use the sleeves if nothing else. The rest, I had to freehand. I went with a beautiful georgette I found on Goldha...

Without A Stitch On: June 2015

http://withoutastitchon.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html

Thursday, June 18, 2015. Agent Peggy Carter: Part 2, The Suit. Peggy's suit is definitely one of the most distinctive pieces, and no, it isn't just a blue suit off the rack, sadly. It is clearly modeled on 1940s styled suits, with a longer length to the jacket and the A-line skirt. Photo by George Germaine. Finding a reasonable pattern for this turned out to be quite easy. I used the Simplicity 3688 pattern. Is), so I settled on dying for my extra color. Jacket bodice from patterning to lined. The jacket...

Without A Stitch On: From Stitches to Masterpiece: Step 1- Cleaning

http://withoutastitchon.blogspot.com/2011/05/from-stitches-to-masterpeice-lesson-1.html

Saturday, May 7, 2011. From Stitches to Masterpiece: Step 1- Cleaning. There has been a lot of talk about what to do with a piece of cross stitch once you've finished it on forums I frequent. And considering I had my Tiger. Still needing to be dealt with, I thought I'd pass along what I know about how to make something that could just look like it was thrown together into something that truly shows off all the work done- well. But before I can get into the nitty gritty of blocking, a word about cleaning ...

Without A Stitch On: May 2015

http://withoutastitchon.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

Thursday, May 28, 2015. A Local's Guide to Dublin Fabric Shops. One of the issues I had when I first moved to Dublin is that fabric shops can be few and far between. Knitting seems to be the predominant craft here, and there are plenty of online guides that can fill you in on the myriad of shops that cater to all things knit. But there really isn't one for Dublin, so hopefully this can be a start. Dublin is missing a fabric district. It is sad, but true. As I mentioned before. This quaint shop opened up ...

Without A Stitch On: From Stitches to Masterpiece: Lacing

http://withoutastitchon.blogspot.com/2011/05/from-stitches-to-masterpeice-lesson-4.html

Sunday, May 15, 2011. From Stitches to Masterpiece: Lacing. So, if you've been following on, and you wanted to just make a pillow or put your project in a quilt or some other option that does not require a frame or your project to be flat, you can skip from here on out. At this point, having cleaned, blocked and ironed your project it is ready to be sewn into whatever other plans you have for it. For the rest of us, our next step is Lacing. It could actually be Matting (next time! This is actually much s...

Thursday, April 23, 2015. When Bigger Isn't Better. I'm a busty girl. To many, this would be seen as a blessing, but if it is, it is most certainly a mixed one. On many occasions, I love it. And let me tell you, they do not make clothes or patterns for folks who have such a dramatic difference. Heaven help me if I want a button up shirt. In ways, the fact that I know how to make my own patterns is great. It helps a lot in figuring out a basis to work from. But the reality is its never that easy&#...Which...

Without A Stitch On: My First Sewing Project: Teaching Kids to Sew

http://withoutastitchon.blogspot.com/2015/07/my-first-sewing-project-teaching-kids.html

Wednesday, July 8, 2015. My First Sewing Project: Teaching Kids to Sew. A few weekends ago I had the pleasure of going over to a friend’s house to help her two little girls learn how to sew. It was wonderful. I’ve always enjoyed teaching, but this particular type of teaching was new to me. I normally deal with adults, and while I enjoy that, there is something beautiful about helping a small person along their first forays into a hobby I love dearly. 1) Choose the right project. Build confidence that the...

Thursday, May 5, 2011. From Stitches to Masterpiece: Overview. From Stitches to Masterpiece is a series of tips and How To's for what to do with stitching projects once you finish them. UPDATE: May 2012. This guide primarily follows me finishing off one single cross-stitch project. I have since added a few photos and tips for other types of projects and techniques. There are 3 steps that I think every project should go through on completion- Cleaning. I will go through those three steps first. Not every ...

Without A Stitch On: From Stitches to Masterpiece: Step 2- Blocking

http://withoutastitchon.blogspot.com/2011/05/from-stitches-to-masterpeice-lesson-2.html

Sunday, May 8, 2011. From Stitches to Masterpiece: Step 2- Blocking. The basic idea of Blocking is to use water to relax the fabric and stretch it out into the desired shape. After proper blocking, short of re-soaking the project, it will hold its shape well. This can correct a myriad of minor issues and even some mistakes and will make mounting/framing a project infinitely easier. However, with cross stitch and embroidery pieces, wet blocking is, in my opinion, just better. Because you're mostly int...

Betty Lettuce

Tuesday, 17 September 2013. All in all the dress was a bit of a. Learning experience, it isn't up to the standard of something I could sell but it actually has a lot of work in it, is fully lined and strengthened (if anything maybe too thick? And I won't make the same mistakes again, at least not all of them at once. Friday, 6 September 2013. Of course. Back to the familiarity of hasty bad decisions and my trusty "Stitch Unpick". Drafting pattern for toddler troos and shorts. The finished surfer shorts.
