Cycling in Victoria’s High Country. Hokkaido – Hiking in Daisetsuzan National Park. Hokkaido in autumn is dazzling. The colours start high in the mountains so that’s where we headed on our third day, climbing to the top of Asahi-dake (2290m) with a bit of help from the rope way to get us to 1600m. The views were amazing. Kuro-dake from the top of the ropeway. View from the summit of Kuro-dake. Autumn colours on the ascent. The view on the other side – a lunar landscape. Sue and Ted Too!

Our base was in a small village called Castelmuzio, near Pienza where we rented a beautiful apartment from the Moricciani family. The famous Palio, a horse race where jockeys ride bare back, is held in this Piazza in Siena twice a year. Bagno Filipo, hot springs in a woodland setting. Sue is the driver. Ted is the passenger! We chose to stay in Reggio Emilia because it looked like an interesting city off the tourist track and it proved to be so.
