MAPACA Abstracts | Theory Bites
https://theorybites.wordpress.com/2010/06/26/mapaca-abstracts
Just another WordPress.com site. In an effort to make myself feel better about how little developing my thesis has done, I’m going to post my abstracts for the two papers I’m working on for the MAPACA conference in October. I’m super excited these got accepted beacuase:. 1 It indicates that my ideas are perhaps not crazy, and makes me feel like my thesis has a little more viable academic weight. Anyway, here are my abstracts, werewolves and serial killers. I am *so* into werewolves right now. You are com...

Shock/Horror | Theory Bites
https://theorybites.wordpress.com/2010/07/16/shockhorror
Just another WordPress.com site. While attempting some research today for a myriad of papers I came across this article. Thinking about horror in terms of what is shocking is interesting to me. Granted I don’t think that all these films really qualify as “shocking” but that could be the product of my own over-exposure. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Strange Production | Theory Bites
https://theorybites.wordpress.com/2010/07/06/strange-production
Just another WordPress.com site. While I suffer from endless thesis paranoia I’ve happened upon a fascinating space where a whole lot of interesting dailogue is happening to me. Which I in turn responded to. So to make a long story short, she sent my response to some of her students and now there’s this really interesing dialogue going on. I’m fascinated by it, and intrigued by how interested and switched on her (now ex) students are, who will be college freshmen this fall. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

Colva | Amused

Culture, teaching, sex, and style. Mix well and bake for 30 minutes. One of my students mentioned my blog in class today, which illuminates two pretty crucial things for me:. I exist on the Internet and sometimes forget that. EEK! I haven’t updated my blog in over a year. 2 isn’t surprising at all, I resolved to write regularly in 2014 and I pretty much managed that until the last quarter of the year, I made no such promises about 2015, which is a pity because I’ve done a lot of cool stuff. I did my firs...

Theses, writing, weight-loss, and sweet metaphors | Amused
https://colva.wordpress.com/2014/08/28/theses-writing-weight-loss-and-sweet-metaphors
Culture, teaching, sex, and style. Mix well and bake for 30 minutes. Theses, writing, weight-loss, and sweet metaphors. Today in class, my new American Studies thesis students were challenged to answer this question, how will doing a thesis change me as a person and affect my life? Research driven academic writing might seem dry and sad to a lot of people, but I believe it provides one of the most poignant, useful metaphors for getting through life I have ever encountered, which brings me to my point.

Horror | Amused

Culture, teaching, sex, and style. Mix well and bake for 30 minutes. I decided it would be a good idea to include a page here which would discuss what I’m mostly all about. I make a deliberate effort to keep my personal writing and academic work moving around one a few general themes: horror, gore, violence, pain and sex. It all sounds much more exotic than it is. I have an almost lifelong relationship with horror. My Mother loves horror movies (. The People Under the Stairs. Silence of the Lambs. I bega...

Culture, teaching, sex, and style. Mix well and bake for 30 minutes. Let’s talk numbers…. Now, I know I’ve been posting a lot about fat, and weight-loss lately, but it’s because this is what I’m doing right now and, guess what? 8221;, “Oh my god, you’re so huge! 8221;, “You should take the stairs! 8221; fat body. Does that sound crazy depressing? And all for weight you can’t see, for weight that doesn’t make a damn bit of difference. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not being denied in any way. Ea...To maintain m...

“How?” and What Comes Next… | Amused
https://colva.wordpress.com/2014/05/12/how-and-what-comes-next
Culture, teaching, sex, and style. Mix well and bake for 30 minutes. 8221; and What Comes Next…. May 8th was my three month (or twelve week) gym-o-versary, I did not think I could stick with it this long, or that I would have this much success. I’ve lost 41lbs since February 8th. 8221; but then I realize that I’ve committed myself to this exercise, and now I’m bound by own investment to continue it. Where Does Fat Activism Really Happen?
