Friday, 3 June 2016. A Mast For "Albion". Filming four tons of Columbian Pine being laminated and fashioned into a mast for the Wherry "Albion" has been a fascinating project. "Albion's" previous mast was manufactured in 2002 so it is highly unlikely I will ever film a similar event. Photo courtesy Roger Watts NWT. Big Sky Productions: Disappearing Norfolk.

http://bigskyproductions-jonno.blogspot.com/2014/06/an-old-country-boys-view.html

Monday, 16 June 2014. Many years ago in the East end of London I was in conversation with a market trader. When he learned I was from Norfolk he began speaking very slowly in his native "Cockaneese" so that I might understand everything that was being said to me. He informed me, with unnecessary and patronising delight, that Norfolk was one hundred miles from London and every mile took you back one year. A form of time travel. Street Market" courtesy Stephen McKay. I cannot imagine how we managed all tho...

Big Sky Productions: February 2015

http://bigskyproductions-jonno.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

Thursday, 12 February 2015. Ebridge was owned by Cubitt and Walker from 1883 until 1998 when it was sold to W. L. Duffield and son of Saxlingham. In its time the mill has been powered by water, steam and finally electricity. Wherries served the mill via the North Walsham and Dilham canal until the 1930s when waterborne trade was superseded by road transport. For a full history of Ebridge mill please see Norfolk mills site. Http:/ www.norfolkmills.co.uk/Watermills/ebridge.html. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Big Sky Productions: March 2014

Sunday, 2 March 2014. War Diary Part Two. Due to unforseen circumstances my film making activities have been seriously curtailed at the moment. To keep the blog active it seems a good time to publish more extracts from uncle Walter's war diary. In Part two, 1917, Walter trains as a signaller and gets home on leave to England for Christmas. There are suprisingly no entries in the diary recording his time at home. Sat 12th May 1917. Manoeuvres - reveille 4am. Manoeuvres cancelled - rain. Vaults in cemetery...

Big Sky Productions: April 2015

http://bigskyproductions-jonno.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

Saturday, 18 April 2015. Last summer (2014) a pair of young swans settled on the upper reaches of the North Walsham and Dilham canal and raised their very first brood. From the day the chicks were born and took to the water I have filmed their progress and watched them grow and thrive. By mid July the youngsters had eased into the daily routine of eating, sleeping and preening. Issued under Creative Commons (author unknown). Summer drifted into Autumn and the youngsters overall grey plumage was showing t...

Big Sky Productions: Swallowtail Butterflies.

http://bigskyproductions-jonno.blogspot.com/2014/06/swallowtail-butterflies.html

Wednesday, 25 June 2014. Papilio Machaon Britannicus" is the posh name for a magnificent species of Butterfly, more commonly known as "Swallowtails". From late May to early July these large, beautiful insects take to the air and fly strongly over the Norfolk reed beds. We took our cameras to How Hill near Ludham in search of these fascinating creatures. Through two of the hottest days of the year we waited, in company with other enthusiasts, hoping to catch a glimpse of the elusive "Swallowtail". In spit...

Cornwall - Beside the Sea: August 2013

http://cornwall-besidethesea.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

Cornwall - Beside the Sea. Our life in and around the north-coast village of Portreath . Thursday, 22 August 2013. Mark, Stuart and their dog Sharpie have been joined at their camp-site by their neighbours John and Leigh, two children Declan and Ewan and their two dogs. I offered to have all the dogs here so that they could go to Portreath beach for a surf.  I was envisaging four small dogs all playing happily together and then they arrived! 160; When the car pulled up it had a miniature pony in it!

Cornwall - Beside the Sea. Our life in and around the north-coast village of Portreath . Thursday, 24 July 2014. Just a hint of rain this morning.  We’d decided on Padstow for my last day and used the park and ride as the town is always difficult to park in.  There were loads of boats in the harbour and the place was buzzing …. Cornwall - Beside the Sea. Our life in and around the north-coast village of Portreath . Saturday, 29 June 2013. Annual at Gordon’s School. Mike taught at Gordon’s in Surrey for almost thirty years.  It was called Gordon Boys’ School when he first began there but became co-ed and so the name had to be changed.  Every summer they have ‘Annual’ which entails marching, presentations and music by the Pipe and Drum Band. We had a terrible drive down as the M25 was clogged but we arrived just as the Band began...

Cornwall - Beside the Sea. Our life in and around the north-coast village of Portreath . Tuesday, 22 July 2014. Our first early morning walk took us around the site …. The sun soon came out and you can see we’re on Clover field …. Fowey was the destination for today and after parking on the hillside and walking down to the town, we found a bench overlooking the water …. Time for a posing photo and to learn about the harbour …. After we’d eaten we had a look inside the church …. One very tired Westie!

Cornwall - Beside the Sea. Our life in and around the north-coast village of Portreath . Friday, 18 July 2014. I apologise for not having blogged since last year but it has been a traumatic time which finally came to an end on 19th June when we lost Mike.  He’d endured two operations on his eyes but unfortunately he completely lost his sight and last June he was diagnosed with vascular dementia. . He is now out of pain and at peace but he’s left a gigantic hole in our lives. Friday, July 18, 2014. Second...

Cornwall - Beside the Sea. Our life in and around the north-coast village of Portreath . Sunday, 28 April 2013. Setting off for Home. We left the Norfolk Broads site and as we passed over the River Thurne I spotted Sally moored up with Steve working on her.  I quickly pulled over and turned around, parked up in Lathams car park and we walked to the riverside to say hi and goodbye.  It was lovely to see both Steve and Lisa one more time before we hit the road for Cornwall.
