Pertama kita harus mengetahui apa arti danau itu sendiri, danau adalah suatu kumpulan air dalam suatu basin atau cekungan. Dan menurut jenis airnya, danau di bagi 2 yaitu danau air asin dan danau air tawar. Pembentukan Danau air asin. Pada umumnya terdapat di daerah semi arid atau arid, dimana tidak adanya pelepasan air laut sehingga air yang mengisi cekungan danau hanya berkurang melalui proses penguapan.
