Grain CSA - blackshire gardens

In 2012, we began growing grains with our friends and neighbours at Cedar Down Farm. In anticipation of the beginning of our joint grain CSA. 2014 is our first year of CSA pick ups, and so far, it's fantastic! CSA (community supported agriculture) is a selling format most commonly seen with organic vegetable farms, but it works great with grains, too! Ahren Hughes, the farmer. Ahren caught the farming bug in his early twenties. He's spent time working on farms in B.C., Kenya and Ontario. In 2004, he established Blackshire Gardens, which originally began as a permaculture project on rented land near Guelph. Ahren currently spends as much time as he can, the six summer months of the year, farming exclusively. He spends his winters working carpentry, and squeezing in as much farm-related work as possible. You can find Blackshire Garden's products in season at the Guelph Farmer's Market. From May till September, we'll be there with asparagus and shiitake mushrooms. Depending on the harvest, we may not be there every week, so if you're making a special trip, be sure to contact us. To make sure we'll be there.
