Blantyre is situated approximately 15 kms south of the city of Glasgow in what was and is sometimes referred to as Lanarkshire. In the late 1700's coal was being mined in Cambuslang and was being brought to Blantyre to fuel the furnaces and steam engines of the Blantyre Works and Mills which opened in 1785. Blantyre Model Railway Club
Blantyre Model Railway Club is a small friendly club founded some 35 years ago by local model railway enthusiasts who met in a local church hall before moving to a converted loft as numbers increased. Meetings are now held on Tuesday evenings in an outbuilding within the grounds of Blantyre Old Parish Church. Limits on available space necessitates the storage of our O gauge layout whilst work continues on our new OO gauge layout. Calderside has been shown at several local shows and is still available.

These events were the catalysts which inspired Andra to devote the rest of his life to improving the lot of, not only his fellow miners, but also their wives and families. This involved taking on the rich and callous coal-owners in particular and The Establishment in general, which he did to great effect. Andy's book entitled A Blast from the Past was launched on the 18th of April 2005. It has been a labour of love for Andy and the result of several years work.

The Hub was established in February 2012 and currently has 6 clubs engaged within the hub. The clubs involved include; Basketball, Triathlon, Football, Tae Kwon Do, Swimming and Gymnastics. The Hub’s are led by the Community Sport Hub Officer, Craig Allardice and Active Schools Coordinator, Marc Conroy. No Events were found.
