Claire Austin - Blogging from the Marches

Due to the severe lack of time I have to write, especially between spring and late autumn, I thought visitors to this blog might like to see some of the great combinations that crop up in my garden throughout the growing year. Starting in now in April, this delightful mixture of rather unfashionable Dicentra spectabilis (now called Lamprocapnos spectabilis) and the tall, uncommon Brunnera macrophylla ‘Blaukuppel’ enhance each others beauty, something …. Mullein moth …. Notes from the early summer garden.

travels - Claire Austin

It did not occur to me that the Mexican province of Yucatan would provide any gardening inspiration. But how wrong. The use of green plants in a climate with temperatures as high as of 30C and humidity of 90% was inspiring. Over the week we were there, on a much need break, I came across lots wonderful examples of how to use green and not so green plants. Perhaps not the best …. See claireaustin-hardyplants.co.uk. Mullein moths - Claire Austin

Wildlife in the garden. I spend a lot of time wandering around my garden, pulling weeds and just looking at what is happening, especially when it comes to wild life. Each year the verbascums (commonly called Mulleins) get attacked by the caterpillars of Mullein Moth. These handsome little yellow and black creatures devour the leaves and flower buds. But I leave them be, because I know they will recover. As these pictures prove. No comments yet. You should be kind and add one! Like Claire on Facebook.

Blogging from the Bog | musings from and about our cottage in the West of Ireland

Blogging from the Bog. Musings from and about our cottage in the West of Ireland. January 24, 2018 in Dublin. This is my version of an actual event that occurred during the short time since we moved to West Clare from the US. The narrative is presented through the eyes of my son, because it was his experience – but it is all my words and my perspective. In the middle of their conversation, I heard Patrick say, So Eoin, how are you getting on at school? April 17, 2017 in Éire. January 6, 2014 in Chicago.
