Bloke on a Bike in the Tropics: May 2012
http://blokeonabikeinthetropics.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html
Bloke on a Bike in the Tropics. A slice of my cycling life in the tropics of North Queensland, Australia. 19 May, 2012. It's good to be home again. I headed off last Sunday on a work-related trip to the northern part of the state. The project I have been working on is getting to the pointy end and we are making every effort to ensure that those who are impacted by the project have as much information, training and support as we can give them. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). I moved to the tropics of Australi...

Bloke on a Bike in the Tropics. A slice of my cycling life in the tropics of North Queensland, Australia. 02 July, 2012. Ladders, Lemons and Lengthy Legless Lizards (Oh and a Weekend Race Too! It's Canada Day 1 today. In honour, our city in Australia has declared today a public holiday.not really. although it is a public holiday here in Townsville. Every year there is a public holiday declared to coincide with the local show. So what does puttering on the yard on a Monday entail? Then I decided it was ti...

Bloke on a Bike in the Tropics. A slice of my cycling life in the tropics of North Queensland, Australia. 14 November, 2011. 14 November- a quick search of the famous search engine application that rhymes with Dougall lists some well-known identities with birthdays falling on the fourteenth day of the eleventh month:. Boutros Boutros-Ghali (1922) a name so nice he used it twice. Next King of England and the Commonwealth (maybe) (1948). Mozart -Johann Georg Leopold, not Amadeus (1719). 01 November, 2011.

Bloke on a Bike in the Tropics. A slice of my cycling life in the tropics of North Queensland, Australia. 10 March, 2013. An Experiment in Lent(il) Behaviour. The road racing season is back for 2013 here in the north and today, Sunday, marked the second in a series of crits for the local club. Numbers have been great across all grades with more than 100 riders registering across 4 grades in addition to the junior riders. Last week's average speed was just on 37km/hr for the 12 starters. This week it ...

Bloke on a Bike in the Tropics. A slice of my cycling life in the tropics of North Queensland, Australia. 24 March, 2012. Well, yes I suppose. Crit this morning.postponed from last Saturday when the weather wasn't fit for man nor beast- unless you're a duck. The monsoonal rains were wreaking havoc with many facets of everyday life- not just cycling races. Over the top of all of this was a loud roar- like a large military transport overhead- but it went on for a few minutes. Even the military wouldn't...

Cycling paradise: November 2012
http://troppocycle.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html
No snow, ever. and bikeways. and no hills. Wednesday, November 28, 2012. Today I forgot to take all my raffle tickets for the Townsville BUG 'win a commuter bike' raffle to work. Doh. So instead of delivering them a single km at lunch time I had to ride home at the end of the day, get the tickets and deliver them west to Kirwan, a suburb about 6 kms away. Well I want you to know. Links to this post. Tuesday, November 27, 2012. There have been dogs. And turkeys were born. there is a wee blob above the...
Cycling paradise: December 2013
http://troppocycle.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
No snow, ever. and bikeways. and no hills. Tuesday, December 31, 2013. Some people wonder if it is possible to have a 'normal' Christmas season in the tropics. Well it is once you accept that this is the new normal. Have a seat under this palm tree. And look for activity in the Bay while you have a coffee. We find it amusing to dress up the dogs for photos, but then the costumes have to be hidden away before they get destroyed! Just you wait. Sheila. That's me in the green lights. It has gotten really ho...

We finally have all the paperwork done for owning a dog and transferring a chip and verifying immunization. having a baby is way easier than having a dog, I swear. Action shot, dog attacks octopus. Just doin' what comes naturally. Links to this post. Tuesday, April 16, 2013. Settling in with a big dog. I have a dog tag now and everything!

Cycling paradise: October 2012
http://troppocycle.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html
No snow, ever. and bikeways. and no hills. Wednesday, October 31, 2012. Smart cyclists start doing hills, but I hate hills, so I started running. I have made Wednesday my mid-week running day by getting a drive to work and running 5.2 kms home. That way I cannot avoid it, and with one run firmly planted in the week I hope I will be motivated to do two more somewhere. Haven't got that bedded down yet, but I am optimistic. Here I realize there are two people wearing cycling kit. guess who. And now photos&#...
Cycling paradise: save my soul
http://troppocycle.blogspot.com/2013/09/save-my-soul.html
No snow, ever. and bikeways. and no hills. Friday, September 20, 2013. Why are we here. What does it matter if there is an election, and you vote (after DAYS of research) to find that you are not normal. Some weird ass, fringe dwelling, tree hugging, greyhound obsessed cycling weirdo. Get off my road! Australia is now spun back to the 50s, and I can't even remember the 50s. So where do I live now? At a University that is struggling for relevance in a new paradigm? To have us all drive a car? The challeng...
Cycling paradise: September 2013
http://troppocycle.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
No snow, ever. and bikeways. and no hills. Sunday, September 22, 2013. Suddenly it is hot. Spring is never much here, someone just trows a switch somewhere and the heat comes on. It is tinder dry and that special smell of 'autumn leaves' confuses my seasons. Lizards and snakes are on the move. This was a big guy, a good metre long. Kapok are spring. They are everywhere on the hills. New spring outfits for my girls. I told you it was hot! Izzy surprised me when she plunged into the river and had a lie down.
Cycling paradise: May 2013
http://troppocycle.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html
No snow, ever. and bikeways. and no hills. Sunday, May 26, 2013. We are having a spell of winter weather. It was less than 12 degrees C this morning, so a good time for a jammy fashion show. Pretty in pink. I bought this from the GAP people, because I assumed the GAP coat they were sending was canvas. The GAP green coat is fluffy double fleece! Doh It will be a rare day in Townsville that we get to show this off on a public walk. I was watching Scott hacking away at the new fence line greyhound track.
Cycling paradise: Spring has arrived
http://troppocycle.blogspot.com/2013/09/spring-has-arrived.html
No snow, ever. and bikeways. and no hills. Saturday, September 14, 2013. Now that Izzy is ours we can spend up big at the Vets to try and clear up the canine lupis on her nose. So far I think she is looking a bit better. I don't like the cortisone treatment though, and will be glad to see the end of that. It has knocked her around and she isn't her usual bright self at all. And so it begins. A happy customer. He is newly arrived from Europe and takes this kind of thing for granted. Super Tuesday pretty m...

A struggling man's thoughts about the thinking man's struggle - to make ends meet, integrity, faithfulness, fathering, spirituality, friendship, emotional bonding [to name a few! Trying to make sense of life's journey. Wednesday, June 06, 2007. Corpus et sanguis Christi. Ned played Jesus in a school assembly today, with the class thinking about the Body and Blood of Christ (as above in Latin), and how it came about from the Last Supper. I wonder how Ned's faith journey will turn out? For a 40 th. And it ...
