Sunday, September 13, 2009. Susan and I went to Chicago over the labor day weekend. The trip is 7 1/2 long hours from Dyersburg through Illinois corn fields to Chicago. The Illinois interstate speed limit is 65 mph - What's with these people? We spent Friday night close to the hotel at PF Changs . We then walked back to the Grand Street area where we went into one of the local malls, then back to the hotel to get ready to walk to the Navy Pier for dinner and an evening fireworks show over Lake Michigan.

Monday, May 4, 2009. One more Eagle, one more Civil War re-enactment. The Shiloh Battlefield on April 4th was also busy with reenactments during its anniversary. But, lucky for us again, an eagle was discovered nesting in one of the tall pines on the battlefield. I was fortunate enough to get a photo of that one as well. As for the Civil War Battles. Wednesday, July 8, 2009. Trip to Houston - March 2009. Of course, this was a hugely significant battle for the Union with Vicksburg being the key to holding the Mississippi River. And, this was also one of the battles that got Grant noticed by Lincoln. Enough for the history lesson. I can hear my daughters whining in protest, even now. After the tour and a quick lunch, we headed out of Vicksburg toward Shreveport, then down through Carthage to Buffalo, over to I45 and in to Houston.

Saturday, May 2, 2009. Emmi and Janet visiting in Tennessee. It was great fun for Pops and MiMi to see Janet and Emmi for a few days. By Friday, Pops was able to spend some time playing. We noticed the basket under the paper shredder had some material that had potential to cause great fun if used to throw into the air. The excitement caught on quickly. By the weekend, we got to take advantage of some good weather and head for Chickasaw park which is about 25 miles south of Jackson, Tn.
