The China Chronicles: January 2007
http://the-china-chronicles.blogspot.com/2007_01_01_archive.html
Wednesday, January 31, 2007. The Middle School and High School community service clubs volunteer their time on Saturdays mornings at a local orphange. This weekend I decided to join them. I was surprised to find that the orphange is very close to school. I've passed it several times a week and never knew it was there. Now, I can't help but think about the kids every time I go by. Posted by kimnyc at 7:01 AM. Tuesday, January 23, 2007. The big draw of Harbin is their annual snow and ice festival. Arti...

The China Chronicles: March 2007

Friday, March 02, 2007. When you think of any travel postcard from a tropical island images of aqua water, white sand, and palm trees may come to mind. You may also think (if you're a graphic designer) how many hours of Photoshop did it take for the postcard to look that good? After visiting Phuket, I can now say those type of places actually exist. It's really not photoshop magic afterall! Posted by kimnyc at 10:05 PM. View my complete profile. The Bok Choy Revolution. Year of the Pig.

The June 23rd Project. Protected by the 9th Amendment. 3 REAMDE by Neal Stephenson. I love Neal Stephenson and I love long books (This one also clocked in at over 1000 pages! That's the premise of the book, and so over the next 1000 cinematic and descriptive pages we meet an assortment of characters including Russian gangsters, Russian "security agents," hackers, jihadists, and gamers, all of whom wind up on one of the longest chase scenes in modern fiction! I can't wait for the movie! I like long books.

The June 23rd Project. Protected by the 9th Amendment. A short book about this guy who plans to sail from England to Maine. He wants to sail to Maine because he has this old wooden boat to sell and the market in Maine is better than anywhere else for old wooden boats. He also goes for the adventure, and to conquer a bad experience he had on his first blue-water experience. Looking back over my archive I see that on 20 July 2005 I was at book 12. Weird. 21 July, 2006 15:00. Email: mashomack at gmail.

The June 23rd Project: Irene
http://june23rdproject.blogspot.com/2011/09/irene.html
The June 23rd Project. Protected by the 9th Amendment. We completely survived Hurricane Irene. We were sweating it out pretty good at Allison's parents house, getting text updates from neighbors, and then from the TV news once they showed up on our corner/block. That was a little stressful: "hey! And this is our driveway. You can see how high the water got, there at the rubble line on the front lawn. We didn't lose our magnolia tree, either! Thats getting pretty close! Is there anything you can do? I put...

The China Chronicles: August 2006
http://the-china-chronicles.blogspot.com/2006_08_01_archive.html
Sunday, August 27, 2006. On Saturday night David and I organized a dinner and a cruise down the Huang Pu River for a group of our fellow new teachers. Our sunset cruise sailed for about an hour along the Bund, one of Shanghai's top tourist areas. The Bund faces the new part of the city, Pudong. Pudong is where all the major businesses are located as well as the famous Pearl Tower. Can you imagine a Chinese place without rice in China! The following day David had work to do, so I decided to go walking aro...
