In the Land of New Normal: November 2013

In the Land of New Normal. Reclaiming life after breast cancer. Sunday, 10 November 2013. It was certainly a very full few days but not surprisingly, some sessions grabbed me more than others. So here is a little bit more about sessions that were, for me at least, the highlights. I'm sure other attendees would have a different list, but that is all part of a wide ranging programme. I went to a proffered paper session on clinical trials, in which 8 presenters each had a 10 minute slot in which to present ...

In the Land of New Normal: February 2013
http://inthelandofnewnormal.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html
In the Land of New Normal. Reclaiming life after breast cancer. Wednesday, 13 February 2013. It was four years ago today that I started radiotherapy. I was reminded of it as I drove to work this morning with views across a beautiful snowy landscape, because it was also wintery weather then. It has been interesting to look back at that first day partly because it summed up the experience quite neatly - the good and the difficult. Much has changed in the last four years, but the strength and support of...

Life is what happens when we're making other plans. Laquo; All I Need To Know I Learned From Chloe. Betty Ford & The Status Of Mammography. In the Land of New Normal: Empowerment and Sustainability: a win/win situation
http://inthelandofnewnormal.blogspot.com/2015/02/empowerment-and-sustainability-winwin.html
In the Land of New Normal. Reclaiming life after breast cancer. Sunday, 15 February 2015. Empowerment and Sustainability: a win/win situation. This last week in the BMJ I read an article by Eaton, Roberts and Turner about delivering person-centred care to people with long term conditions (http:/ www.bmj.com/content/350/bmj.h181) . The article made excellent points, but it is rather an indictment that there is a need for such an article when this approach should be commonplace. The article covers both sus...

In the Land of New Normal. Reclaiming life after breast cancer. Friday, 21 February 2014. It hasn't been the greatest week or so. It wasn't to be, but in the meantime she lived her life fully until she became ill last July. At the end of last week a friend told me that she had just been diagnosed with an aggressive form of the disease. Fortunately her GP was on the ball and made a very swift referral and she has now started chemo. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Feisty Blue Gecko - a tail of the unexpected.

In the Land of New Normal: December 2012
http://inthelandofnewnormal.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html
In the Land of New Normal. Reclaiming life after breast cancer. Monday, 31 December 2012. Ten years ago I'd leave as much as possible to the very last moment - and that was part of the excitement for me. I enjoyed the build up through Advent and didn't want Christmas itself to start too soon or, come to think of it, to finish too early! It is nearly time to pour a glass of something and settle down to another tradition by popping the 1984 ROH production of Die Fledermaus into the video! A year in my life.

In the Land of New Normal. Reclaiming life after breast cancer. Tuesday, 15 October 2013. Who Needs a Pink Wig . About a month ago I was fortunate to be able to participate in the first running of a new week long residential course of science for patient advocates. Called VOICE (Vision On Information Confidence and Engagement), this course was developed by a collaboration between the charity Independent Cancer Patients' Voice and Barts Cancer Institute of Queen Mary College, University of London. The gen...

In the Land of New Normal: The Debate - NCRI Cancer Conference II
http://inthelandofnewnormal.blogspot.com/2014/11/the-debate-ncri-cancer-conference-ii.html
In the Land of New Normal. Reclaiming life after breast cancer. Monday, 10 November 2014. The Debate - NCRI Cancer Conference II. Picking up where I left off, the motion for debate was "This house believes that the Cancer Drugs Fund has been good for British cancer patients". So this was an interestingly framed debate. As someone well used to debate and the putting of arguments for and against a case, attending the debate was an interesting experience…. I will move onto Tuesday's sessions in the next post.
