Steps of Breast Self-Examination (SBE). While taking a shower or bath explore the breast and underarm areas with your fingertips. Raise one arm behind your head. Use the flattened fingers of the other hand to feel for lumps or bumpy areas. Also feel under your armpit. Change your hand and repeat on the opposite breast. Stand in front of a mirror and look at each breast separately. Raise your arms above your head. Look for any changes on your skin or in the size or shape of your breasts.
